Velvet Underground

I was suprised they didn't have a thread yet. Anyone like them? They have a unique style which you just gotta love. Great lyrics too. Same goes for Lou Reed solo.

Re: Velvet Underground

They sound like my 15 year old cousin's band... and in a bad day.

Of course, Lou Reed is a poet.

Re: Velvet Underground

I like the Velvet Underground, unfortunately, I have only come across a few songs of theirs, but I'll be sure to pick up an album next time I can.

Re: Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground was one of Andy Warhol's greatest works..

I like them quite a bit...they take a bit of getting used to, kind of an acquired taste I guess..

I love Waiting for My Man, New Age, Rock & Roll ...and of course...Sweet Jane.

Re: Velvet Underground

I like the track about the guy who posts himself to his lady, only to meet life-defying knife tragedy upon his arrival. I've genuinely only heard about 4 other tracks. Ever.

Recommendations?

Re: Velvet Underground

All fans of alternative and punk music should buy all four studio albums. My favorite album is White Light/White Heat, just because Sister Ray blows my mind.

Re: Velvet Underground

I hate punk music and love the VU. Hence, I don't see the connection.

Re: Velvet Underground

Perhaps the connection is (IMHO) that you don't have to be a very skillful musician to have a band. But this is just an opinion and sometimes you do find skillful musicians in punk groups (Rancid's bass player for example).

Re: Velvet Underground

I'd say that Lou Reed solo is actually much better than the VU. He is like Bob Dylan in many ways, combining a not so great singing voice and not so great music with brilliant lyrics and also adding that little extra that makes it so fucking great.

Re: Velvet Underground

Lou Reed's Berlin is highly recommended. Possibly one of the most depressing and moving albums ever. It really hits you hard and is almost a pain to sit through. Yet it is so beautiful, just brilliant.
