On my website, I am trying to transcribe as much of the "background" conversation and effects on Broken China (1996--Mr. Wright) as I can. On "Night of 1000 Furry Toys", there is a twisted psychopath who speaks in the stanza beginning with "In the world of 1000 furry toys..." However, he doesn't stop singing, even after Mr. Wright resumes! Can anyone help me to transcribe the rest of what is being sung in the background? Thank you! (That's right--there's...something RWr related I don't know!)

No idea...sorry.

Thanks anyway, Driven. I'm curious--do you own the album?

Certainly do. I think that would be one of my favourite songs from the album actually.

Yeah, that one gives me the chills. Let me ask--am I hallucinating? You DO hear another voice in the place I mentioned, right?

Yeah I do...the part he sing starting with "on the night of a thousand fury toys" (that sounds like it is going through a megaphone or a radio or something) keeps going for a bit after Wright starts to sing again. I wasn't sure if he was still singing words...or if it was just wordless singing.

Well, Mr. Moore is credited as "Man on the telephone"...so I suppose we had better accept Mr. Wright's explanation! But I definitely hear words. I picked out a couple. They weren't DIRTY...but it was rather twisted. I just want someone else to try and transcribe this, so that way I can be sure of it. I mean, it was kind of demented, so I'm kind of trying to get a "sanity check" before I put it on my website...

Yeah I hadn't looked at the album for a bit...so I realised I had made a few little boo boos in my last post. I went home and gave it another listen this morning, and you're right (like you'd be wrong concerning a Rick Wright issue!!!) there ARE words, but I couldn't for the life of me make any of them out.

Intrigued, I thought I would try my hand in assisting FloydWaters solve her R.Wright poser - how presumptuous of me, eh? After many listens at different volumes - loud, very loud and very very loud - it sounds to me as if the voice is quietly, almost tentatively, echoing what Richard is singing and then fades away. That's my worthless tuppence.

You could be right, BoaB. I'll try it again. But I'd swear that in the "echo" for "shiver", I hear "quiver" instead. And I also thought I heard the phrase "become one". Some of it may in fact BE an echo, as you describe, especially as you reach Mr. Wright's lines: "And there's no stepping off or stepping down." But I'm not sure if it's ALL an echo... Now do you see why I was...shall we say, a bit unnerved when I noticed this? ![]()

Unnerving indeed...here's what I've managed to come up with, so far... (This is what I'd thought since the beginning--but this is so crazy I debated for a long time about whether or not to post it.) The psychopath's words are in parentheses. Can anyone help me get any more of it? Maybe Driven could take another listen with these notes...? ----- [Start after the verse "In the world of 1000 furry toys..."] (Yeah...) Now you feel it, a shiver (quiver and become one) and you've begun When they (See them bend) pull the strings, how you start to run! And there's no (don't try) stepping off or stepping down It's another world, and it's a better world, That's what we have found... ----- This is SO NASTY...but it sure doesn't leave any doubt about how horrible this thing is that is happening. Can you imagine carrying such a pain inside you, from having to live in a world where all that should be...is inverted, distorted?

Thanks! I have GOT to know if I am nuts...because this is what I've thought I heard almost since I got the album. I STILL remember the way I freaked out and pulled the covers over my head the first time I realised what I was hearing!!!

It makes a lot of sense, considering what they (Wright and Moore) are trying to describe.

This is a very typical "mark" of Mr. Wright--leaving layers upon layers like that...so even several listens later, you suddenly hit something you've never heard before... Do you think I've got these words right? I am thinking of putting this up on my website, because I have tried to transcribe other sound effects as well. It IS creepy. And it ALSO means that Mr. Wright himself doesn't have to say the REALLY nasty stuff (it's Mr. Moore who does this). I don't think I'D want to, either, if it was someone so close to *me* who'd suffered so much.
