Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

I just listened to it a few more times and it just really sounds like Mr. Barrett singing that loud part. Can anyone be sure?

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

Do you mean the loud part on 'Let there Be more Light'?. Because that is definetely Dave. I also remember reading in an article that the only 'Saucerful' tracks that Syd appeas on are 'Remember a Day' and 'Jugband Blues'. The recording for 'Remember A Day' began with Syd, but it was finished off after he was gone.

He sounds very strange on some of his earliest recordings, but yes, that's him. "Then at last, descending on a point of flame..."

That's quite interesting....did you figure this out just by recognizing his voice from other pieces, or does it say this somewhere?

Assuming it is him though, he sounds quite similar to Mr. Barrett then, right?

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

A combination of both. I can't remember where I initially saw it, though. It might have even been here, in this thread. But after I listened closely, I decided that was the correct conclusion. Mr. Gilmour's voice, even in the older days, is a bit more "gravelly" at times, than Syd Barrett's. You can hear the same thing on "Corporal Clegg" in parts. So I think this is correct.

Ok, let me clear this up for all of you, because I KNOW who is singing on each track xcept for on "Saucerful of Secrets" (not sure about that one)

Let there be more light: Rick Wright (Far, far, far, far away....), Gimour (Then at last the mighty ship etc...). Roger whispers the lyrics with Rick for all of Rick's verses.

Remember a day: Rick (with barrett making "ccchhhs" noises)

Set the Controls for the heart of the sun: Roger

Corporal Clegg: Dave (Corporal Clegg, he had a wooden leg), with Roger (He won it in the war etc.). Dave, Rick and Roger all sing the verse "Mrs Clegg, you must be proud of him", and also repeatedly sing the line "Corporal Clegg" together toward the end- over the top of the bugle.

See-saw: Rick

Jugband Blues: Syd

This is absolutely correct.

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

You just might be right about Syd's voice on Remember A Day... is he also the one doing the harmonies during the fadeout? Whoever it is also does them on See Saw.

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

Hmm...on the harmony for See-Saw, I think that's either Richard Wright himself, or it's Mr. Gilmour.

Whoever does ASoS is the likeliest candidate for that one. Except with ASoS, I can't tell if it's one or both of those two, either.

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

According to Nick's book it's Norman Smith doing the harmonies on "Remember A Day!" This has made me rethink who is doing what.

Again, the vocalists are, in summation:

LTBML: Rick & Roger on "far far away", Dave on "then at last" (with somebody doing harmony on "Mildenhaaaall", maybe Dave double-tracked)

RAD: Rick, with Norman Smith on harmonies (and DRUMS! see Nick's book, p.115). The slide guitar might be Syd, but the "chhhsss" vocal noises are Roger.

STC: Mostly just Roger, but with Dave doing the "ah-ahhh-ah" before Roger's line "set the controls for the heart of the sun"

CC: Dave on "had a wooden leg", Roger on "he won it in the war". Rick + Dave + Roger + Nick do various harmonies and vocal noises throughout ("mrs clegg you must be proud of him") with Norman Smith "muttering 'git yore hair cut' on the fadeout" (again according to Nick's book, this is what causes the voices singing "corporal clegg" over and over to crack up)

ASOS: Dave+Rick, probably with Norman as well (doesn't sound like any of the Floyd voices singing the bass part)

SS: Rick, with himself and someone else (likely Dave, but maybe Norman) overdubbed on harmony "ah"s

JB: Syd, maybe Roger on "la-la-la-la"s but it could also be Syd double-tracked

Not actually true.

Remember A Day and See-Saw are BOTH piper outtakes, so they feature Syd.

Jugband Blues obviously features him.

He's on a tiny smidgen of Controls.

He was apparently involved with Clegg, I don't know to what degree.

Actually, all of these songs were started AFTER the songs that appear on Piper were completed (unless "Sunshine" was an early alias for Remeber A Day... see the 1967-8 Abbey Road sheets). Syd is only DEFINITELY heard on Jugband Blues and Remember A Day, the rest of those tracks may not feature him at all.

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

Ah.

Sorry, I thought See-Saw and RAD were recorded at Piper and then used on ASOS. Bugger.

Re: Vocal Credits--A Saucerful of Secrets

This is what I always thought:

Let There Be More Light:
Wright - Far Far Far away ...
Barrett/Gilmour - Then At Last the Mighty Ship

Remember A Day:
Wright

Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun:
Waters

Corporal Clegg:
Barrett/Gilmour - Corporal Clegg had a wooden leg.
Wright/Waters - Mrs. Clegg, you must be proud of him.

Saucerful of Secrets:
Gilmour, Wright, Waters harmonizing

See Saw:
Wright

Jugband Blues:
Barrett
