Piper vs. Pepper

I know you guys just hate those polls, but here it goes.
Often compared by many critics as best and the most influencal albums ever, Floyd's Piper at the gates of dawn and Sgt. Pepper from The Beatles are one of the greatest r'n'r albums ever. What do you think which album made a greater influence to the rock scene.
What will it be : The Beatles or Pink Floyd?

Oh,yeah, I say Piper...

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

As much as I love Floyd, I'm gonna have to say Sgt. Pepper had a wider range of appeal, hit a braoder market, and thusly had a greater impact on music as a whole..

Both magnificent albums though.

Yeah, Sgt. Pepper because it flows so very well and is very consistent upon repeated listens.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

as the first un-anonymous voter in this category, I voted proudly for Piper. as much as I LLLLLOVE the Pepper album, Piper just has what I need in sixties space rock without the orchestra, sitars, etc. and still gets a high rank as an album. Piper just seems to hold sentimental value or something, like 'the beginning of' sort of vibe....or something.

I know I'll get shit from all the Beatles' fans I've been bashing, but let's face it, Sgt. Pepper's.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

We all know rumors that Sgt. Pepper was a psychodelic record only because Beatles were in the studio during the same as Floyds. I think that the Piper was far more original, but not so good produced as Sgt. Pepper.
And ofcourse, Beatles were the most popular band on earth then, while Pink Floyd were just an underground atraction.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

'Sgt Pepper' & especially the track "A Day In The Life" were more influential when first released

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

hi everybody! this is my first post on this forum!
I voted for Sgt Pepper, Piper is great but it just can't compete with any of the Beatles albums from Revolver to Abbey Road in my opinion.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

Welcome aboard, Walrus!

SGT. Pepper, by far.

I'm not saying I like it better---I used to own it [vinyl], but that was long ago and far away.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

Its a really tough question to answer. to be honest, the Beatles its my best group ever. Piper is a such a great Pink Floyd album but you have to realize it was their 1 album , while it was the 8 Beatles album. I do think that Sgt was a really good album but its not as good as Revolver. Revolver makes the change of rock and roll and psicodelic.

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

I agree that the songs on 'Revolver' are betta than 'Pepper', butt 'Pepper' iz an incredible achievement production wise

it has been announced that the 'Let It Be' album iz to be rereleased minus Phil Specter's arrangements & mixes

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

I think that Revolver is definitly more listenable and melodic than Sgt. Pepper, but...
Sgt. Pepper is far more mature and artistic than any Beatles album. Can't really remember any hit song from the Pepper (maybe 'Lucy'?), but as an album it's far superior.
Sgt. Pepper is something like Moby's album 'Play' : none of the singles was a big hit, but the album was very high on Bilboard for a long time

Re: Piper vs. Pepper

I'd argue that Abbey Road is more mature than Sgt. Pepper.
