At the drive-in

As a Mars Volta fan, I just bought two albums of the band At the drive-in, In Casino Out and Relationship Of Command. At the beginning I didnt like it at all, and I felt the music sounded too noisy, but after some time with the two albums, i really start to love them both. For beginners, this is the band that became Sparta and not at least The Mars Volta, with more screamo sound in the music. It's Maybe not for any Mars Volta fan, but a really great band if your in for screamo. Or, just try some listenings. Any comments?

Re: At the drive-in

I love at the drive-in. For a long time after I bought ROC I didn't really "get it". But in the past couple of months I have grown to cherish it just as much as I cherish The Mars Volta.

You can't really say one is better than the other, for they are very different from each other. Lately I haven't liked ATDI a lot better partly because it's easier to listen to than Frances the Mute, and I have listened to De-Loused so much that it's time for some new music.

One Armed Scissor, Invalid Litter Dept., and Quarantined are my favorites

Re: At the drive-in

Litter, Letter.. whatever

I think you can say that one is better than the other, they've certainly improved technically, especially Cedric, but it is all subjective.

The early stuff is very punkish, and not in a good way, but the boys did mature over time.
3/5 ATDI members are now in TMV. Sparta is a load of shit.

I love the first track on ROC, forget the name of it now though :S

cheers

Heh, maybe they did become bit more mature over time, and maybe even too much. I really miss the energy in Frances the Mute that At the drive-in albums are so full of, yes, their songs is never boring to listen to.

Sparta's music is yes, more unoriginal and has pretty bad vocals too. But some of it is listenable.

My favourite ATDI songs at the moment:
One armed Scissior
Invalid Litter Dept
Pattern against user
and not at least Enfilade

Edit: The first track on RoC is Arcarsenal

Re: At the drive-in

I recently hear "One Armed Scissor". I don't remember where in the heck I heard it, but anyways, it was alright. The first two albums by ATDI for me to buy are the Vaya EP & Relationship of Command. Of course, I have no idea when I'll get around to that.

Still waiting on a new Mars Volta album though.

Re: At the drive-in

Have a read of The Mars Volta thread, I've got some info there for that.

People are so impatient with those boys, or they have very short memories, Frances only came out in March.. give em some time..

cheers

Oh I know, it's gonna take a while; but when the music's that good, how can you help but wait impatiently??

Hmm thats not even half of the album, mate, and still i would say that Mars Volta's music is turning less energic since ATDV, just think of all the empty spaces in Frances the mute.

Re: At the drive-in

Actually, together, Cassandra and Cygnus pretty much constitute for half the album.. but anyway.

People seem to have a real problem with those empty spaces.. I dunno, I think there's a different sort of energy in them, if you follow it like a story there's a definite movement in them... if that makes any sense?

anyway.. back to ATDI before this turns into a TMV DDT.. I got the Vaya EP the other day, I really really liked it.. yay for them. Though.. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, thank god Cedric learnt to sing, and did he ever learn to sing.

cheers

Two questions.
How is Vaya EP compared to ROP, almost as good?
Thank god Cedric learnt to sing? You arent insulting his screaming from ATDI, are you?

Re: At the drive-in

That's the point.. it's screaming.. not singing.. I mean it's good screaming, but it's not singing.

Vaya is awesome.. It's a bit more raw than ROC but I think parts of it are probably even better than ROC.

cheers

Cedric does "scream" a lot yes, but most of the time he is yelling. And yelling is not the same as screaming. Yelling is indeed singing.
