In my opinion, all was good with Barrett but it was essential for Syd to leave so the Pink Floyd could like, expand a bit and yeah. Otherwise...the nightmarish infomercials. Not that Syd was bad, of course. I really enjoy listening to his solo stuff. |

| Re: Floyd Lives After Barrett!? To me, he's the essence of Floyd, and certainly the leader and image of the early Floyd. maybe until Atom, where PF left psychedelia. But to me, Dark Side of the Moon IS Pink Floyd, it's cover is Pink Floyd, because everything's in there: They all worked together as a band, and Syd phatom was wandering around the ablum(I don't think Waters'd had made the lyrics to Brain Damage if it wasn't for Syd, and it's my favourite floyd lyric!!) Would had been better if floyd conitnued to be leadered by Syd??? The same kind of question like Would have been better if Jeff Beck entered the band instead of Gilmour??? I Love Beck, but if he should had entered PF, I'm sure they would have not record dark side, WYWh, etc... So... I prefferred tings as they happened, because floyd is such a perfect band!!!!! |

Isn't Pink Floyd, afer all, a massive popular cult band??? it may have the 3rd most sold album in history, but nevertheless we Floyd fans consider floyd a cult more than a simple band,(because it's more than that).i think that the floydean is a unique kind of fan, different to the Zep heads, metal heads, punkys or beatle/pop fan |

In my opinion, Syd was, like you said, the essence of the Pink Floyd. I also think Syd was still IN the band even after he left, perhaps just in lyrics, but he was IN. You know what I mean? ... |

| Re: Floyd Lives After Barrett!? I think Pink Floyd was much better without Syd. When Syd was in the band, the music was too pyschedelic. |

| Re: Floyd Lives After Barrett!? I can't make a comparison. It's like "which is the better band?", because they were two separate bands, both groundbreaking, unique and mind-blowing. They just had the same name and three original members. I love Syd's Pink Floyd, love hearing Rick, Nick and Roger. There are so many excellent songs from this PF era. Interstellar Overdrive is like Rock/Jazz, it's akin to parts of Bitches Brew, which was released three years after Piper. Syd had the most amazing sense of rhythm. With David, they evolved in a kaleidoscopic fashion. They were experimental lads, and their collective ideas and natural born musicianship brought to life a sound that will always stand apart. It's sheer joy listening to the first PF morph into the brilliance of Dark Side (even on the few occasions when, musically speaking, it's not a joy). |
