Re: Floyd Lives After Barrett!?

But it's fascinating to think what Dark Side would have been like with Syd's participation.

I know what you mean. Even though I'm not a Syd fan I've often wondered that myself, and just how different the band would've been in general. Especially if Syd wasn't schizophrenic and the band never hired David. Or if the five man Floyd actually worked out either with Syd taking an active role or being a sort of Brian Wilson figure. Obviously it woulda been a hell of a lot different. Especially lyrically imo. It's also intrigued me how what happened to Syd closely mirrors yet at the same time differs from what happened to Fleetwood Mac's original guitarist Peter Green (who truely was an acid casulty imo). Who funnily enough David sites as a pretty big influence guitar playing-wise.

most of us would have never have heard them except on late night infomercials selling compilations with the likes of Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Fifth Dimension.

Oh cheese and rice, what a nightmare...

In my opinion, all was good with Barrett but it was essential for Syd to leave so the Pink Floyd could like, expand a bit and yeah. Otherwise...the nightmarish infomercials. Not that Syd was bad, of course. I really enjoy listening to his solo stuff.

I enjoy Christie Brinkley's lovely cheeks trying to sell me an exercise bench.

Re: Floyd Lives After Barrett!?

To me, he's the essence of Floyd, and certainly the leader and image of the early Floyd. maybe until Atom, where PF left psychedelia. But to me, Dark Side of the Moon IS Pink Floyd, it's cover is Pink Floyd, because everything's in there: They all worked together as a band, and Syd phatom was wandering around the ablum(I don't think Waters'd had made the lyrics to Brain Damage if it wasn't for Syd, and it's my favourite floyd lyric!!)

Would had been better if floyd conitnued to be leadered by Syd??? The same kind of question like Would have been better if Jeff Beck entered the band instead of Gilmour??? I Love Beck, but if he should had entered PF, I'm sure they would have not record dark side, WYWh, etc... So... I prefferred tings as they happened, because floyd is such a perfect band!!!!!

Isn't Pink Floyd, afer all, a massive popular cult band??? it may have the 3rd most sold album in history, but nevertheless we Floyd fans consider floyd a cult more than a simple band,(because it's more than that).i think that the floydean is a unique kind of fan, different to the Zep heads, metal heads, punkys or beatle/pop fan

I agree with you.

In my opinion, Syd was, like you said, the essence of the Pink Floyd. I also think Syd was still IN the band even after he left, perhaps just in lyrics, but he was IN. You know what I mean? ...
