Why does the album begin with In The Flesh? In the movie, In the Flesh? depicts Pink (Geldoff) as having the shaved eyebrows. This suggests that the songs that follow up until the second In the Flesh are all flashbacks...or that the first In the Flesh is merely a daydream of Pink who sits in his hotel dreading his upcoming concert. What do you guys think?

Actually its self-explanatory. The lines "is this not what you expected to see/if you wanna find out whats behind these cold eyes/you'll have to claw thru this disguise" is like an intro. For this opening part, Pink (the character) is taking on the role of narrator. I hope this explains things. If not, I'll try to simplify it even more.

That makes sense also. I did a lot of reading after I posted and I read an interview where Roger explains it as I had thoerized as a flashback. So that really, In the Flesh? and In the Flesh are the same moment in terms of plot. I get it

i wish we could study and discuss something like the wall in like english class or something. its really no different than a collection of peoms you would study in school. i would consider it a work of art. it would make english class a lot more interesting than it already is for me and make it somewhat interesting for other people too.

Yeah, but if we started analyzing Floydian lyrics in schools, then people would want to analyze other music, including but not limited to: Oasis Journey Styx REO Speedwagon Do we really want our children suffering through the reasonings behind "Renegade"?

I don't really think Roger's lyrics are on a par with Shakespeare or some of the better poets. I think as far as a ROCK BAND go they have gone futher into human nature than anyone else...but replacing school curriculums with it...

not replacing but implementing. i think that a lot of people pass off rock lyrics as just about sex and drugs. i think waters is as much a poet as shakespear just in different times and different styles. and yeah, it doesnt have to be just floyd, other great rock poets could be studied too. i wouldnt quite call Styx rock poets, sorry bro.

In The Flesh?'s meaning is explained right in the title. Firgure it out, and you'll get why it's at the beginning . But the words refer to a concert. It's about two different things; life before birth and rock concerts.
