Mad? who's mad?

"sus" stands for suspended 4th, meaning, rather than the "root -3rd- 5th" which is the major chord, you play the root -4th -5th. For instance, an Esus4 would be E A B. where E is the root, A is the 4th, B is the 5th.

like this:

----0---
----0---
----2--- <---this is the 4th
----2---
----2---
----0---

Re: chord problems

So is the part about the hammer-on, pulloff right? on the 4th, so for Esus4 you would hammer-on and pulloff on the G string, or is that just some shit I heard? And all that references to 4th and 5th is from the circle of fifths, right? What about something like Esus2, I assume that would be 1-2-5 correct?

Re: chord problems

Hammer-ons and pull-offs have nothing necessarily to do with suspended chords. I mean, you can pull-off, hammer-on from a E to an Esus4, but that is not the definition of a sus chord. At least as far as I know.

There are suspended 4ths and suspended 6ths; as far as I know, that's it. On the sus4ths, the 4th is played instead of the 3rd. On sus6, the 6th is played in addition to the root, 3rd & 5th. There is no use of the 2nd in a chord...it would be disharmonic. However, the 9th is an octave above the 2nd, so it can be used in extended chords, where it sounds good.

Yes, you can pick the notes for sus4 chords right off the circle of 5ths, since it is the same relationship as I-IV-V chords.
