Let There Be More Light

Does anybody else really love this song? I think it's got one of the coolest openings of a Pink Floyd tune, it's got a real funky grove to it. The vocals are pretty low in the mix, but the guitar solo in the end is pretty cool although somewhat burried as well. This song lays the framework for what Pink Floyd will soon become later on. The songs and ideas coming from the mind of Roger Waters, dressed up with the vocal interchange between Rick Wright and David Gilmour, along with Nick Mason's fabulous percussion style drumming, Rick Wright's sonic keyboard experiementation (Noticable in the beginning of the track) and David Gilmour's incendiary guitar playing. Best song on A SAURCERFUL OF SECRETS if you ask me.

Listen to Placebo's "Taste in Men". Does the introductory bass riff remind you of something...?

It is a terrific bass riff. Shame the lyrics are so bad! A step above "Stethoscope" to be sure, but peeee-yew!

Saucerful is one of my favorite PF albums, and Let There be More Light is one of the best tracks on it, the intro is great, and dave's guitar stylings are a shock compared to how syd played on Piper. plus, the shout out to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is saweet!

ASOS was the the first floyd album I bought in CD format & the opening track is worth the price of admission alone

I'd love to hear a decent live recording of Let there be more light - I've got two versions recorded at the Amsterdam Paradiso in 1968 but the quality's appalling. Fantastic performances, though!

There's a very amusing video of them performing it on a French TV show.

the one where Dave messes up the lyrics and he's wearing that tight yellow shirt with fringes? hilarious.
