| Re: Record covers and artwork in general I think the Backs Catalogue covers the covers the best. I love this picture but I'm having trouble learning about who came up with the idea and why. Probably just a monetary reason but still a great idea. |

| Re: Record covers and artwork in general yeah Mark, Demons and Wizards, I think that was the work of Roger Dean? Fab cover!! I know he also did covers for Yes and Greenslade, and very striking they were too. Back in the old days when you bought a vinyl album, you also got a beautiful cover which was large enough to go up on the wall..not like these piddling little CD's.

| Re: Record covers and artwork in general One of my kids gave me a book called '100 great album covers' last Christmas. The artwork on some of the albums is exceptional and needs to be a large size to really be appreciated. Covers like 'Big Brother and the Holding Company' which was drawn by Robert Crumb or 'Weasels Ripped my Flesh'- Zappa, (can't recall who did the artwork), the artwork by Storm is also fabulous.

SGT Pepper's LHCB was a great one to study while quaffing a few beers. Also the Stone's answer to Beatles psycadelia with Their Satanic Majesties Request with the 3-dimensional early-tech hologram on the cover of the original issue and the maze & photo collage on the inside foldout.

I believe Hipgnosis did most of their later covers. I know they did "Houses of the Holy" and "Presence" has Storm Thorgeson's fingerprints all over it. It's really similar to "WYWH" in its layout. I'm not sure about "Physical Graffiti" but "In Through the Out Door" was Hipgnosis again, including the plain, brown wrapper it originally came packaged in. (An idea PF used first for "WYWH", which shipped in black cellophane with only a sticker.) |

| Re: Record covers and artwork in general Debrah Harry - kookoo Emerson lake and palmer's Brain Salad Surgery (simply because its Giger for both and I love his work) In the Court of King Crimson - self explanitory The Who - Who's next. Just because I personally think public urination is not a crime (just undesirable) Blind Faith -(self titled) It leaves me baffled on the choice/how they got away with it, the nude girl is clearly a minor both aren't "art" as in painted but I still like the concept...

| Re: Record covers and artwork in general Pink Floyd always had cool covers as well as Zeppelin. I always liked the cover to Meddle when unfolded it was a giant ear. also the Bad Company self titled album the words Bad Co. was cut from a picture of a human palm print. Led Zeppelins in through the out door had several different covers. each was a view from all the people in the bar. The list goes on and on. Last edited by davebiz : 01-13-2008 at 12:54 AM. |
