Bad News

A few days ago, I recieved news that one of my dearest friends, one of my dear dear friends, was killed in the line of duty. He was a soldier sent with his Regiment to assisst in the Himalayan Earthquake. A landslide claimed his life and the lives of many in his platoon.

KM was one of my best buds. We grew up together. Through thick and thin - we were, like they say, closer than a split second. A friend is someone who will bail you out of jail. A best friend is the one sitting beside you saying, "Damn that was fun." KM was one of those types you'd find sittin' besides ya wonderin' whatever the heck happened!

When I moved outta the country, it became difficult to keep in touch with him. But we did our best and somehow managed it. I missed my friend but atleast I knew that he was there somewhere, doing the job he was MOST proud of.

That made me happy. My dear friend was warm, (relatively) safe and was doing what he loved best - serving his country.

The last I saw him was when he came down for my 'brothers' funeral last year. He looked sharp and dapper - as expected. We didn't have to say much to each other, we just looked at each other and our thoughts flowed freely. We each knew how the other felt. His presence at that solemn ceremony certainly made a difference.

My friend was my 'brother' in all but name and blood relation.

But today, he is gone. Taken away from me.

But not in vain. For he lived upto his oath. And knowing him, I'm sure he met his fate with courage, a steadfast heart and a smile on his lips.

Hence my change also in my avatar (The "Sena Medal". Roughly translates to Army Medal for gallantry and meritorious service. KM was awarded this) and signature.

Yes, I'm quite sloshed at the moment, so please forgive my spelling and gramatical errors.

Ahhh what a "splendid" moment in my life. One of my dearest friends comes back from Iraq in one piece but another lies now on a pile of wood being cremated.

Ain't life fucking grand?

Re: Bad News

Both of you were blessed to have such a close friendship. Your tribute to him says it all.

Words all seem pretty empty at a time like this, so I'll just say -- sorry for your loss, and my prayers go out for you and his family.

Re: Bad News

No words I offer can help you much, though you hold my most heart felt sympathies, my friend. At least he was doing what he liked best: serving his country. He gave his life in the line of duty, the most honorable death; a soldier's death. May he rest in peace amongst other heroes.
