Squid and the Whale

I saw this movie yesterday. It was okay. It's about a family whose parents get divorced, and deal with the changes in their lives.

What I really need to say is how vital (kinda) of a role the song "Hey You" played in the film. The oldest son learns to play and sing it and tells his parents that he wrote it. He then goes on to play it in a school talent show as his own song, and wins the talent show. Later on in the film the school teacher talks to his parents and shows them the tape of the Wall and they read the lyrics and stuff...and then the real song plays in the movie (which gave me chills).

Yeah, so I thought that was neat. Got me in a Floyd mood. It's an okay movie. I'd recommend seeing it, although it's pretty depressing.

Originally, Behind Blue Eyes was going to be the "talent show song", but they couldn't get the rights to it. Pink Floyd plays second fiddle to The Who agane. The psychologist in the movie also mentions Roger Waters. It's worth checking out if you dedicate your whole life to Pink Floyd.

The movie is damn fine. The movie is actually great. The song is important and is a lynchpin to the whole thing. Your post kinda mighta ruined it for people.

By the way, I did have problems with the fact that 2 college educated persons who would have come to age approximately the same time as the album was released, didn't recognize the song.

The parents? Rock and roll would be considered too low culture for their brilliant literary minds. Pop music is for philistines. It made perfect sense that Baldwin and Paquin were the only ones who noticed right away.

My problem was with the high school audience filled with pop culture savvy teenagers at the talent show. I also had a problem with the boy who looked like he was ten years old "releasing some tension".

My thing with that would be the fact that they were in college (or at least sometime around there) when The Wall would have been released, they may not have heard the actual song, but when told about it, they acted like they didn't even know who Pink Floyd was. I find this highly unlikely.

Actually, not bragging about my own virility, but ten was around the time I was doing such things. Of course I never did it in public, but knowing some of the messed up people I have come in contact with, I find it believable.

Didn't the film take place in 1986? Thus making The Wall only six years old? Neither of those characters was in college in 1979-80.
