Dune Film

I just somehow found myself on the page for the film 'Dune' on Wikipedia and I saw this:

"In 1975 Alejandro Jodorowsky tried to film the story as a ten hours feature with collaboration from Orson Welles, Salvador Dali, Gloria Swanson, H. R. Giger and others. The music would have been done by Pink Floyd, but the project was never finished. Some preparations were later used in Star Wars."

I've never heard this before and I've done a fair amount of reading on Pink Floyd. Does anyone else know anything about this or could it be some idiot using Wikipedia to make stuff up?

It's a shame really, the film that did result could have used some Floyd. I've only ever seen it once and it was touch and go that i'd get through it

Re: Dune Film

This is the frist I've heard of that particular project, I'm not familiar with it.

I am a huge fan of the original Frank Herbert triology. I feel it's the finest Sci-Fi tale ever crafted. Unfortunatley, it's such a finely detailed and intertwined storyline, it doesn't really lend itself to be made into a movie, feature length, extended, or otherwise... I don't even think a 10 hour series could do it justice. Lejjy may argue that, i don't know.

I remember when the David Lynch film came out in '84 or so.. They had to give eveyone a one page glossay to read prior to the film start, so those unfamiliar with the story could keep up.. They really botched the end of that film as well.. It was far too rushed.. The most memorable thing that sticks with me was a three second slo-mo clip of a 12 year old Chani, standing with a Chrysknife in hand and a bloodthirsty smile on her face as the Shield Wall was breached.. There was sooo much more to that story that was completely missed.. Oh well...

Just go back and read the books.

Still.. any missed opportunity to hear the boys in a film is a sad state.

Re: Dune Film

Pink Floyd with Welles, Giger and Dali? Sounds like absolute bullocks to me. Never heard of it before.

@ don kihot
yeah but our lads didn't accept cause Kubrick wanted to do all by himself with music, while floyd were concerned what would be done with their music - of course
and when he didn't let them implicate - the whole thing was cancelled

Yeah, and in the scene towards the begining where Alex is at the record store and picks up those two younguns you see a cover of Atom Heart Mother in the background to pay tribute to PF.
Just thought it was cool.
