I think it's the greatest thing I have ever seen. that man's a genius! I feel like taking a day off and drive to Ohio just to see it live.

Re: Aproaching Concerts Thread

Metal started going to shit in the 80's and today most of it is total shite. Rap-metal? Some prog-metal is done nicely I guess but those riffs just all sound the same. The tone got too heavy also, but that's just me and it's not a reliable source in most cases. Black Sabbath, now that was metal. Most of their work with Ozzy is rock though, but with the first album they started the genre and Iommi pretty much invented the 'evil riff' listen to the song 'Black Sabbath' that riff is legendary and it's infuence is unbelievable. He really is the riffmeister, screw Deep Purple and Blackmore. Black Sabbath is underrated I think, despite their often silly lyrics they were all excellent muscians. Iommi has always been an incredible guitarplayer, not only his riffs but also his solos can be truly mindblowing. Geezer Butler is an incredible bass player. And Bill Ward was a great drummer just listen to him pounding those drums in War Pigs. And Ozzy, well he was just Ozzy I guess. It's funny to hear him going from this very deep bluesy voice to this very high helium voice. With every album his voice seemed to get higher and higher untill they reached the album Never Say Die and it was truly unbearable. Their first 6 albums are all great, the seventh one is mediocre but has some nice moments while the last one is one of the worst pieces of shit one can encounter. Oops I find myself rambling on and on once again, I'll stop now. But yeah Sabbath was great with the original line up. Some of their work with Ronnie James Dio is enjoyable but the other 134 singers should be avoided at all costs.

Re: Approaching Concerts Thread

I totally agree with you. One has the feeling that after the riff in "Black Sabbath" we have gone through 3 decades of endless repetition in metal music with small variations and changes in production values but you can still hear that same very riff in almost any new metal album that comes out.

In fact, that was the main reason I've just quit from my former band. We were a hard rock outfit with influences from metal music but also from many other bands that weren't metal strictly speaking. This somehow annoyed our bass player-singer who wanted to play everything in dropped D tuning and with 5ths. In the end it became a question of how many combinations of 5ths we could come out while he was singing some melody line in A minor. When our scope was so brutally narrowed I just left the band, I couldn't stand the amount of useless repetition.

Is that what you think?? Or did you read that in a magazine??

The 80's were perhaps metal music's best years. Sure, most of the commercialized stuff was terrible, but there were a ton of awesome bands that played great metal in the 1980's.

Ok, they are a metal band of 80's, without a name!
