I think so. Some Floydians are more Shine On, I've noticed, but I the dark, brooding nature of Echoes never seems to fail me.

Dark and brooding in parts, yes, Typhoon.

But there are also moments of shimmering light and beauty, of hope restored and flowering into joy. Like the clouds beginning to break after a storm, when the tiny rays of the sun begin to bring warmth once again...

There is a moment like this on "Echoes". It is very hard to describe...but it occurs at the end of the darkest, most haunting segment, when that Bm chord first begins to return...

One tiny note, one tiny chord...it makes all the difference in the world.

"Echoes" is one of the most masterful songs the Floyd has ever done--the best blend of talents ever.

No one is drowned out by any other--the lyrics are wonderful, but the music stands in its own right, beautiful and equally important. Every instrument can be heard for its own virtue, every Floydian's talent unified seamlessly into an incredible, beautiful whole.

Thank you very much...of course, the Floyd gets the most important credit, for a song that lends itself so to lyrical description. (That's the only word I can think of for it, because it clearly isn't verse.)

There is really not much any of us can say after that escription. But I do know what you mean, the absolute feeling of happiness and peace one gets after that song.

Have you guys checked out the Echoes Midi file on this site? I feel its a pretty mad interpretation, i recommended anyone give it a listen! Daves guitar work when the thrid or forth movement of the song occurs is just fantastic. Yeah no doubt the best Floyd song, an emotional ride from start to finish.

Does anyone else listen to it at strange hours of the morning in the dark. I put my headphones on so I can have it blasting into my ears without desturbing anyone else. Ii is only then that I can go to sleep peacefully!

cheers

It is probably my favorite Floyd track. The lyrics are nice in my opinion, but I believe that the music is the real standout part of the song. Even one of the band (I think it was Dave) said that the lyrics were just an excuse for the music in Echoes.

This is one of the Floyd's materpeices. But it's not my favorite floyd track. SOYCD, WYWH, Time, and CN are the only floyd tracks I like better than echoes. The sorter version on the "best of" makes me sick they should have had the whole freakin thing.

Out of curiosity, were Echoes and Shine On edited for space or brevity? I.e., is there enough room on their respective discs (CDs able to go up to 74 minutes and 40 seconds) to fit the entire versions of either?

Both of the CD's are pretty much full to capacity. I think that they made a mistake in editing their classic shit (on which the band's reputation was built) in favour of the 80's & 90's guff (on which the band's reputation faltered).

Cheers,

Mark
