Re: Gilmour On "Tour" The set opens with "Castellorizon," a moody showcase with Gilmour's guitars backed by the orchestral arrangements of Zbigniew Preisner as conducted by Robert Zeigler.

I think your description was "it's actually ok". But perhaps my blanket playing of it had something to do with that. It IS actually OK. Particularly live. |

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" Unfortunately for OAI, PULSE has replaced it as prime listening territory in my house. I can't get past the Bootegging version of Poles Apart, frankly.

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" There is a vindictive, accusatory tone to songs such as "What Do You Want From Me" and "Poles Apart".

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" Indeed, David himself has said that the first verse of Poles apart is about Syd, and the second is about Roger. The last is, again, about Syd. Hence the name "Poles Apart"...the two guys are so different. What Do You Want From Me is totally about Roger (in David's own words). I like the Syd aspect of Poles Apart... "I thought of you, and the years and all the sadness fell away from me" is a beautifull line.

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" Some of David Gilmour's lyrics might be directed at Waters, notably "Lost for Words" and "A Great Day for Freedom," with its references to "the wall" coming down, although the more specific subject is the Berlin Wall and the fall of Communism.

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" I know for sure that the lyrics in Poles Apart and What Do You Want From Me are directed at good old Rog, but David has resisted claims that A Great Day For Freedom has anything to do with Roger, or his Wall. Not so sure about that accoustic anomoly on DB. It's not a great song. Listening to PULSE version of On The Turning Away...that IS a good song.

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" And lest anyone doubted that the absence of Waters's dour soul would lighten things up a bit, guitarist and post facto leader Dave Gilmour gamely took on the Mantle of Conscience for topics ranging from the cold war ("The Dogs of War") to yuppie self-indulgence ("On the Turning Away").

Re: Gilmour On "Tour" Gilmour certainly has a conscience, but he isn't as good as Waters at writing words about it. Similarly, Waters isn't as good at making music. That's why between them they conquered the rock world. Never again, unfortunately.
