I would. But then, I'm not exactly mainstream.

I guess I am just strange, I love both extremes of the Floyd spectrum. I love the "Waters Era" and I also love the "Gilmour Era." I listen to The Final Cut and The Division Bell daily. I love all of Pink Floyd's era's, with the exception of Piper, but I appreciate what all of the members contribute.

TFC is indeed brilliant. Roger has written some of the most moving material I have ever heard with that album. His vocal performance is about as moving as it can get in my opinion. His voice and lyrics send chills down my spine sometimes. I know Dave has said that he likes Roger's lyrics, but complained that he used a less than perfect vehicle in which to deliver his lyrics. I disagree. I feel that the music on TFC is wonderful, Mr. Kamen did a great job on the keys and the arrangements. Roger wrote great music. Period.

Re: Question about the final cut for 'older' fans

Roger didnt really write it to suite a pop, commercial hits driven radio market. I feel with the way that he goes about making his albums post Dark Side, he almosts suits them not to jive with the kind of stuff radio plays. Methinks maybe because he was so anti the music industry he kind of subconsciously sabatoged his albums, including all his solos. This really isnt an attempt to put him down (I love Roger, tho he can be a bit abbrasive at times) but I think it makes his points more valid when he waxes poetic about his socialism.

Actually "Another Brick In The Wall" was rerecorde for the commercial radio play by adjusting its beats to sync with the DiscoTime beats;and TFC was originally called "Spare Bricks" and was more of Rog's solo outing.

Re: Question about the final cut for 'older' fans

ABITW2 is the exception rather than the rule. The rule is songs like Bring The Boys Back Home, no commercial appeal at all really and Rog insisits its the most important song on the album, the one that ties it all together. And TFC was called the Spare Bricks as a working title b/c it was the songs for the Wall that got cut by Gilmour. Not made to be commercial, and very characteristic Roger, not written with commercial success in mind.

But I guess in the end this is all just some pipe dream of mine.

In this new Floyd book/DVD I got for Xmas, Waters mentions that it was only after the recorded the kids parts of ABITW2 that they thought it had commercial appeal.

Re: Question about the final cut for 'older' fans

Roger's thoughts on his popularity are mixed. Listen to "Get Back To Radio," it deals with the struggle for balance between reaching out to people through music and the pull of commerciality. Nice tune as well, pity the rest of his 1987 output was so dodgy.

Re: Question about the final cut for 'older' fans

When i was in london ontario, the local station had 100 greatest albums of all time count down, Darkside of the moon won and they played the whole album uninteruppted, which was cool. our stations never do anything like that, the odd song gets airtime. its mainly mainstream "pop music"that gets played or the"thump thump thump" dance music

Re: Question about the final cut for 'older' fans

Not Now John was issued as the single and the line was changed to "Stuff All That!". Gilmour says they didn't re-record it, him and the girl singers just went into the studio and shouted "STUFF!" a little bit louder.
