| The most frightening song ever written? Good afternoon friends, how are you's doing? Sitting at work just now and just had to drop a line to say............. Waiting for the worms is the best song i have ever heard. Watching Roger Water's performing this on the Berlin / Wall gig is absolutley terrifying. There are lines in that song of such horrific magnitude that i am literally frightened to watch or listen to it again. The insanity and intensity of the performance, delivery and music which march those horror show lyrics forward only serve to resound unwelcome in my head. I can't get over this, this has shaken me to the core. The line that hit me like a tonne of bricks and has not and will never leave me is "Waiting.... to turn on the showers and fire up the ovens" An all too vivid picture of evil. I don't think I have ever been affected in this way by music before. Is this the most frightening song ever written? Massive Attack have been my favorite band for many years but recently I have been getting a new understanding as to how good the Floyd really are, they make most other music out there seem as tho it was written for little girls. I would now say that they are probably my joint favorite band now. I can't belive I am actually saying that, I feel as tho I am betraying the Massive, but the Floyd have really taken a hold of me lately after watching the Pulse, live in Pompei and the miracle that is Roger Waters Wall in Berlin gig. But back to point, is Waiting for the worms the most frightening song ever written? It's certainly the most frightening I have ever heard. I never, ever thought i would ever be SCARED of a song. |

| Re: The most frightening song ever written? Welcome Diaz, glad to have you here. Please take a momnet to read the forum rules and guidelines.. Thanks. Waiting is a fairly terrifying song, meant to showcase the horror of the holocaust and other atrocities of war and insanity. Roger can write some very insightful and graphic lyrics. I'd have to say that "The End" by the Doors would rank right up there as well. The last "spoken verse/poem" is a pretty graphic account from the point of view of a young man who kills his family and rapes his mother.. quite disturbing. "The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on He took a face from the ancient gallery And he walked on down the hall He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he.... Paid a visit to his brother, and then he... He walked on down the hall, and And he came to a door...and he looked inside Father, yes son, I want to kill you Mother...i want to...f*** you" "

| Re: The most frightening song ever written? My favorite Ozzy song, No More Tears is a little disturbing, apparently being about the misadventures of a "saucy Jack" or Ted Bundy type. I would stop short of calling it (or any other song) frightening, however. The light in the window is a crack in the sky A stairway to darkness in the blink of an eye A levee of tears to learn she'll never be coming back The man in the dark will bring another attack Your momma told you that you're not supposed to talk to strangers Look in the mirror tell me do you think your life's in danger here, yeah No more tears Another day passes as the night closes in The red light goes on to say it's time to begin I see the man around the corner waiting, does he see me? I close my eyes and wait to hear the sound of someone screaming here No more tears So now that it's over can't we just say goodbye? I'd like to move on and make the most of the night Maybe a kiss before I leave you this way Your lips are so cold I don't know what else to say I never wanted it to end this way my love my darling Believe me when I say to you in love I think I'm falling here No more tears No more tears No more tears No more tears

| Re: The most frightening song ever written? Hmm...most frightening? Perhaps Porcupine Tree's "Blackest Eyes" or "Strip The Soul". Maybe Nine Inch Nails' "Happiness In Slavery". But I think Devin Townsend's "Bad Devil" is without a doubt the most disturbing thing I've ever heard...in ways you can't fathom, unless you've actually heard it.

| Re: The most frightening song ever written? I've always thought 'Pow R. Toc H.' was particularly terrifying, along with the studio version of 'Saucerful'. 'Miranda' by the Mars Volta has a nice eerie vibe about it.
