White DSOTM Vinyl?

I had a quick question, I've been trying to figure out how much a white Dark Side vinyl is. I recently bought one for five dollars and know it's got to be worth more than that. So if anyone knows, that'd be great.

Re: White DSOTM Vinyl?

Nice signature Axe Victim.

Questions for HaveACigar:
What label is on the Vinyl?
What is the condition? Have you played it yet? (It is hard to tell condition visually with white vinyl)
What kind of album jacket? Artwork? Condition? Cut-corner?
Posters, stickers etc included?
Year of production? Anyway to tell which pressing?

For example, Blue Vinyl Elvis "Blue" first pressing, very good condition record, jacket excellent in shrink wrap - could be $3500 BUT- second pressing (re-release) otherwise the same - only $35.
Anything less condition and etc takes away from these numbers.

Re: White DSOTM Vinyl?

What label is on the Vinyl? Black label with blue prism, there's a (P) 1973 on there, i'm guessing that means pressed in 1973, but i'm not the vinyl expert here. Made in Holland.
What is the condition? Have you played it yet? As far as i know, i played it for the second time it's ever been played and it sounded great. No visible or audible scratches.
What kind of album jacket? Artwork? Condition? Cut-corner? Jacket looks good, no slices or tears in it except small pieces on the corners because of aging in a crate, the artwork is the black background with more of a white prism instead of the blueish prism, no cut corner (i dont think you'd find this on a discount shelf anyway).
Posters, stickers etc included? Sadly no, like everyone else of the time i'm pretty sure he took them out and most likely ripped them or something.

It's definately not one of those, I'm almost certain the guy I bought it from bought it from a store when it first came out, not online in the last 10 years.

Re: White DSOTM Vinyl?

Ok HaveACigar -
Sorry Botley, it is real alright, but I had to search all over for it. I couldn't find any information on any of the collector sites I normally hang out on. This indicates that either no one has it, or no one is really interested in having it for some reason, or no one else has heard of it either. That would be none of the collectors I know anyway.

Here is what you may have. See if the catalog numbers match up and if it is on Harvest Records, not Columbia or EMI or Billy-Bobs

Harvest Records
Dark Side of the Moon
Catalog number 5C - 062- 05249 (1C 062- 05249)
Issued on white vinyl. Cover printed in Germany. Label made in Holland

What is it worth? Whatever anyone is willing to pay for it of course. It is rare. I am unable to find an estimate on the number of pressings. Colored vinyl is not as durable as black vinyl and is sometimes more brittle so colored records were made for fun more than for function. (Vinyl is actually clear and additives are put in for durability or novelty). So, when all of us old-folks were buying albums because we treasured the artwork and the music and expected them to last forever, we usually bought black. We weren't so concerned with "collectability" and novelty as durability. (I have an entire set of colored Beatles Jukebox 45's that were unused because the jukebox owners knew they would wear out. When the market for vinyl got into collectible stuff and entire cache of these previously unwanted beauties was released.)
So, it is rare because it was a novelty item and probably not many were pressed. But because times have changed since the dinosaurs, novelty and collectibility are IN and someone might want it just to say they have it.

I'll start the bidding with an offer of 5 dollars

Re: White DSOTM Vinyl?

haha, you ran into the same problem i ran into. And I'm guessing you probly found a site similar to the one i found with the catalog number. It's cat number is 5c-062-05249 and it seems to be the only white Dark Side album that's actually real. Which for me means, hold on to it. If they are very rare, then in 20 years, i'll be the onyl one that has one... i hope, if not, i know some peopel that know some people that rob some people. Anyway, thanks for the help. BTW, i'm starting a collection of colored records for the novelty of it all, just got a pink animals record in the mail, that makes 3 copies of animals, one of em pink. gotta love ebay!
