Re: Did Pink Floyd rip off Porcupine Tree? I love how people think that just because a band was really good 40 years ago that they would have no reason to copy a younger band with more vitality. Furthermore, I think it is funny how people assume that just because a band came before another band that that band is necessarily better or somehow untouchable when history has proven that everything gets better over time. Look at atheletes now days, they kick the atheletes of 40 years agos asses. Same with the modern indie/folk movement. Beats the HELL out of Dylan and those old throwbacks. PF is one of the few things from the 70's that can really still claim a place amongst the greats, because they were just that damn good. ANd while in a direct comparison I would say that they are better than PT, its only marginal. HOWEVER if you compare Division bell to ANYTHING by PT. The PT album will win. Division Bell kind of failed to impress me. And I think its because Gilmour is washed up and Waters was always a better musician anyways. Did PT copy PF, absolutely. But they also evolved the genre. Did PF copy PT, I think so! They are washed up and dont have many ideas, so they had to steal something. It happens a LOT to old has beens. Gilmour really isnt that great a songwriter, great guitarist! not so great a songwriter. Waters was the brilliant songwriter.

Re: Did Pink Floyd rip off Porcupine Tree? Reading this of course angers me. I refuse to believe that the great David Gilmour would do such a thing. However, just today I posted a poem I wrote that was directly derived from Comfortably Numb Inspirations are what make the artists create. Did Syd copy Dylan? Absolutely not. But the inspiration was most definitely there. I will research this Porcupine Tree, and once I do, I'll comment on here again.

Re: Did Pink Floyd rip off Porcupine Tree? What's the line from the U2 song? "Every artist is a cannibal. Every poet is a thief." You have to disconnect from the world if you don't want ANY outside influence on your art. No big thing.

Re: Did Pink Floyd rip off Porcupine Tree? So I listened to this PT and they are pretty freakin good! They remind of Tool way more than Floyd. They are worth looking into. I'm listening to them right now. However I do not hear the sound of Keep Talking on said PT album. And there are most definitely sounds of The Wall on that PT song. Who cares they are a great band. I'm glad I found them.

Re: Did Pink Floyd rip off Porcupine Tree? Check out The Sky Moved Sideways and Up The Downstair. They're kind of where the PF comparisons come from. Not quite as Tool like.
