Question Elliott Smith anyone?

Well I'm not sure if this is a DDT but I hope not... I searched but didn't find a specific thread talking about him... I just wanted to see what everybody else thinks about him. I think he is an amazing writer. I personally can relate to a lot of his lyrics, so that probably makes it more enjoyable. But what about you guys?

I love Elliott Smith.

Some favorites of mine are "Needle in the Hay", "Angeles", "Southern Belle", and "Pitseleh" and some others.

I think his lyrics are killer but his music bored me to death. Nothing against him but I think he might have benefitted from a band, or at least some more than just an acoustic. But I must say that it is pretty intense to go out by stabbing yourself in the heart

Yes it is intense to be killed that way.. but I don't think they know if it was suicide or murder. Either way it was tragic. But I guess that's how things go, and I think his acoustic sound made his life more tragic. I mean if you listen to his lyrics and try to understand them, I can't see how his songs could go with a band and have the same feeling put into them. But then again, we'll never know

If you listen to the album "Southgate House, Newport, KY" (it's a live recording) you can hear a lot of his songs played with a band. it doesn't sound nearly as good.

I like Elliott Smith. I like that genre of music, sort of "hush folk" if you like. Any of you guys fans of Nick Drake also? He's one of my favorites.
