Re: Roger Waters tour!!!!

It's been brilliant, simply brilliant! I'm a bit tired now so maybe tomorrow I will give my impressions a little bit more in detail but, apart from the sounds and the visions, one of the things that have striken me more is Roger Waters' attitude: smiling, interacting with the crowd and enjoying every minute of it. I saw him in 2002 and he looked very pleased and happy but not like today, he was having a GREAT time and so were we. It has been amazing.

Re: Roger Waters tour!!!!

Well, I haven't slept much but, anyway, here you've got the second part of the review.

This was the only concert that Roger has given in Spain so the place was absolutely full of people from all over the country, from France and surely from many other places. What I liked about the people is that they didn't belong to a single profile or category, you could see all kinds: parents with their kids, young people, people with an age close to that of Waters, posh people, hippies... everything. It's amazing how universal this music is.

We were just in front of the stage on one corner (the one opposite to the female singers) and some Dave Kilminster's friends or relatives were close to us so Dave spent a long time chatting there with them before the concert and also in the 15 minutes break before DSotM. When Roger started singing "Leaving Beirut" a moron came close to us and started "singing" ("butchering" would be a better description) a lot of lines and translating into Spanish to a female friend almost every single line. Then he started talking without interruption about every single song and all its details like if he was at university giving a lecture or something like that (probably to impress that female friend who was looking quite bored instead). Fortunately enough I'm totally deaf from one ear so I directed my good ear to the stage and the music and I forgot about the moron.

If I compare this tour to the one I saw in 2002 the visuals in the latter have nothing to do with the ones in the former. This is Roger at its purest giving an excellent visual show. In fact it all had a more celebrating/happy/rock and roll feel than the other tour which had a bit more reflective/introspective mood. The pig, the giant laser prism over our heads during the closing of DSotM, the projections... I specially liked the projection of the bedroom and the radio because it appears through the concert as a very good link between the different sections.

On the musical side I could easily forget about Roger's lip-synch parts, all in all Dave and Jon Carin sing a lot of parts. Katie Kissoon, Carol Kenyon and, above all, PP Arnold were absolutely astounding. I really liked the "Set the Controls" version as it is one of my favourites and I also enjoyed a lot "On the Run". On the low side I find "Leaving Beirut" a bit boring. Roger gets his message through but I feel that the music is just an excuse for the narrative and a couple of guitar solos. Also, I don't agree at all with what Dave Kilminster does. He just plays note by note what Gilmour put on the records a lot of years ago. I much prefered good old Snowy's solos as he at least has a dinstinctive voice and doesn't mimick Gilmour so much. If I had been Roger I would have given all the solos to Snowy. In this aspect I prefer the "In the Flesh" tour I saw in 2002.

Well, enough for my long rambling. Again, I would say that one of the things that I liked most was Roger's attitude. He came to our corner three or four times during the show saying "thank you" and showing what a good time he was having. He even said some words in Catalan at the end of the show! Of course the crowd went nuts as we are used to rock stars saying a few words in Spanish but not so many do it in Catalan!

An amazing show.

Great review, Watered.
It conjures up fond memories of my own visit with Rog last year.

did you see John McEnroe at the concert??? He and the band went out partying after the gig, which probably led his losing the match at the Spanish Senior Open tennis match in Barcelona on Sunday...

Re: Roger Waters tour!!!!

Just got tickets for the june 1st show in Philly. Probably the same show we saw in Camden last summer but at least it will be inside and we have better seats. Anyone know if the set list is the same?
