Yes,The live versions on Ummagumma are much much better than the studio ones.
But imho "when the tigers broke free- movie version" is better. And I really can't understand why folks hate SEAMUS or Mdmslle Knobbs??
ITF ! ( ie. part2) as the opening track for Rog's 2002 ITF tour was splendid !!In fact if only the other 3 had agreed with Rog to open the set for Live-8 show;it would have put a whole new meaning to the song's purpose!!(So ya thought ya might like 2....Pink Isn't well ....)

Re: The best of Floyd..hmmmm...debatable

seems to me he, the magazine article author, did good by paying respects to Syd, many people who think of the Floyd can easily forget him. And he should never be forgotten!!!

Re: The best of Floyd..hmmmm...debatable

Top 30 fav PF songs, although I may have cheated slightly by combining stuff like Brain damage/eclipse, which is one song in my mind.

I wouldn't pretend this is a "fair sampling" of the whole body of work, since there is very little Barrett here.

Time
SOYCD 1-9
Breathe
Fat Old Sun
Young Lust
Learning To Fly
Run Like Hell
Comfortably Numb
Mother
Echoes
Careful with that Axe, Eugene
Sheep
Dogs
Atom Heart Mother Suite
Astronomy Domine
Brain Damage/Eclipse
Not Now John
Sorrow
High Hopes
Pigs On The Wing 1 & 2 (w/Snowy White bridge)
Terminal Frost
Pigs (3DO)
Wish You Were Here
One Of These Days
Wots…Uh The Deal
Us And Them
Another Brick Pt. 2
Cirrus Minor
Julia Dream
What Shall We Do Now?

Re: The best of Floyd..hmmmm...debatable

So far I prefer your list Strat. I didn't like the one in the magazine much but I would agree with the others posted here. Anyway, your list has "Us and Them" which hadn't been mentioned yet (it is one of my favourite songs). There are also other songs that I really like though I don't know if I would include them in my top 30 like "Julia Dream" and "Terminal Frost" (a rather beautiful and overlooked instrumental).

I don't think a collective of Floyd fans will ever agree with a magazine, book, CD, DVD, etc. that puts a "best of Floyd" list together.

my top 30

I've been lurking around these forums off and on for a while. Well, I decided to make a top 30 list of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and post it on here. This is just my opinion. Also my Comfortably Numb version is based on the PULSE version....because that is the greatest guitar solo of all time.

PLEASE NOTE: This list is ONLY MEDDLE AND AFTER as I do not consider myself familiar enough (yet) with the early material to include it.

1) Comfortably Numb (The Wall 1979)
2) Time (Dark Side of the Moon 1973)
3) Echoes (Meddle 1972)
4) Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Wish You Were Here 1975)
5) Dogs (Animals 1977)
6) Wish You Were Here (Wish You Were Here 1975)
7) Pigs (Three Different Ones) (Animals 1977)
8) The Gunner's Dream (The Final Cut 1983)
9) Sorrow (A Momentary Lapse of Reason 1987)
10)Keep Talking (The Division Bell 1994)
11)Speak to me/Breathe (Dark Side of the Moon 1973)
12)Learning To Fly (A Momentary Lapse of Reason 1987)
13)High Hopes (The Division Bell 1994)
14)Brain Damage/Eclipse (Dark Side of the Moon 1973)
15)The Fletcher Memorial Home (The Final Cut 1983)
16)Have A Cigar (Wish You Were Here 1975)
17)Money (Dark Side of the Moon 1973)
18)Wearing The Inside Out (The Division Bell 1994)
19)Run Like Hell (The Wall 1979)
20)On The Turning Away (A Momentary Lapse of Reason 1987)
21)One of These Days (Meddle 1972)
22)The Final Cut (The Final Cut 1983)
23)Hey You (The Wall 1979)
24)Welcome To The Machine (Wish You Were Here 1975)
25)Us and Them (Dark Side of the Moon 1973)
26)Don't Leave Me Now (The Wall 1979)
27)Mother (The Wall 1979)
28)A Pillow of Winds (Meddle 1972)
29)The Happiest Days of our Lives/Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2 (The Wall 1979)
30)Lost for Words (The Division Bell 1994)
