Re: "On An Island"

He could be taking it easy after suffering from his stroke. Or perhaps he wanted too much money. At any rate, the cover is a little pedestrian but not as bad as some of the other work the same designer has done (all those mass-produced compilation CDs, yuck).

Musicians have a tendency to say this when they release a new album.

True, but from Dave I take it seriously. I do not believe he would say outright that it is the BEST he has done if was not. But, come March 6, we will see I guess...

Re: "On An Island"

Aparently several US radio stations are now playing the title track (no release in the UK yet). (Info courtesy of www.pinkfloydz.com)

Any of our US brethren heard it yet?

David's website also now has a loop of an unidentified piece of music.

I didn't listened to it yet, but it should be a good one.

Re: "On An Island"

It's a definite 'grower'. Musically the chord progression is different to anything I've heard Gilmour do before (and I like it a lot...catchy melody)...but the singing and the guitar solo leaves you in no doubt WHATSOEVER who it is.

Shades there of the music from About Face...and also something about it makes me think of the music on Animals.

The biggest surprise, however, is the strength of the lyrics. The flame-happy folk around here will be saying "I bet polly wrote it" blah blah blah "not Roger Waters" blah blah blah. I don't give a toss who wrote the fucking words...they are quite moving...reminiscent...almost sad...makes me think of happier times when I was a little fella.

All in all a very tantalising taster of the album to come.

EDIT: Thanks Mad Yannis. I owe you a beer mate.

Re: "On An Island"

Thanks for the link!!! (though I have already thanked you in the "What song are you listening to" thread).

I have only listened to the song once but, on the first listen (and taking into account the poor sound quality) I don't find the song very impressive... but the solo is great! Not only the solo in itself but also the progression of chords it follows and the orchestral background. The rest of the song will probably grow a bit more on me (but I won't listen to it again until I get the album and I can listen to it in its context and with a good sound quality).
