Re: My version of comf-numb... please listen

Which part are you talking about with the 14/15th fret???
Can you tell me where (in seconds) in my sound clip it is?

The solo is ridiculously hard to recreate. There are two of those little mute chunks, and i can't for the life of me figure out how he does it. Help!??

p.s. my screen name is diamantematto

I dont know the time really. Its right at the end where you do the:

-15p14-12------------
-----------15p12--------
------------------12------
---------------------12~~~----
----------------------------

And yeah that muting thing is done quite a bit. Im not sure how he does it but I just lay my index finger across about the 14th fret and do the note with my middle finger. You can even make it kindof a D-shape if by putting your ring finger on the b-string 15th fret (in case any of the note comes through). Just how I do it.

--------------14~~~------x---(14)^15^14--
------------x(15)----------x----
----------x(14)------------x----
--------x(14)--------------x---
--------------------------
-

I use that same 3-string muted lead-in for the part above also.

ok i updated it, and redid the money solo (fucked up 1 part), and did breathe.

let me know whatcha think.

the guitar WAS way out of tune.

and i changed that 14/15 part...

also, please keep in mind that i have NO tremolo bar, no pedals, etc. Just an amp, keyboard, computer mic, and a BEAST of a guitar.

yeah yoiu just have to use the phaser effect to get th sound right.

took me a while to get those last two chords, i see them wrong a LOT...

they are D#9 to Db9... also the first chord is an E add 9, might be an Em add 9, i dunno... it basically looks like a B power chord, except you play all the strings....

I would LOVE to figure out TIME... i know the chords but dave doesnt play the chords... if you single out one of the speakers you can hear what he's doing, jsut little weird riffs here and there, impossible to figure out.

I know exactly what you mean about Time. Its fun to just play the one channel with his guitar on it. its something like

----------5---5--
----------6---6--
----------5---5--
----------7---7--
-3/5--5---5---5---
-----------------

I think, but probably in another key. I might just have to sit down and figure that one out. I think it was in somg guitar magazine once....but its more fun to do it yourself.

I am going to comment on this due to the fact that I am a professional guitarist in the US Army Band...

You are on your way to becoming a good guitar player...

A major problem is how you hold your longer notes. You need to practice your vibrato a lot more. That is one major thing that gets guitarists when soloing.... Take your time and make each note sound great. Playing the notes is not enough. Also, your bends are not in tune. You are not hitting the exact pitches in most of your bends.

The money solo is good. My only beef is your rhythms are kinda 'square'. Listen to Dave play it, he almost swings a lot of the notes, whereas you are playing straight. Other than that, great job. You sound nice...

I would suggest getting rid of your line 6 equipment.....

You need to practice pitchbending on the Comf Numb solo. Its out of pitch some places, other than that its good. Same thing with Money.
