Gilmour Live at Le Grand Rex, Paris. 15.03.2006

Wow. I was at the Le grand Rex show in Paris 15/3. It was mindblowing.
The band sounded great even though they had just played four gigs.

!!! Spoiler Alert !!!

Setlist:
First set.
On an Island - start to finish. Only difference from the cd was that "Take a Breath" was played very late in the first set.

Second set.
Shine on you crazy diamond 1-9
Fat old sun.
Wearing the inside out.
Breathe
Time / Breathe reprise
Dominoes
High Hopes
Echoes
Wish you were here
Comfortably numb

David's solos sounded better than on record, and his voice was suprisingly brilliant and did not sound anything like the Meltdown recordings.

Rick's hammond blew the me away. Only thing I noticed was that he had some problems with the Fat old Sun solo - but I guess it's been a while since he played it and it sounds pretty hard to do.

Guy Pratt was, as always, on the spot and a showman. Really enjoyed to finally see him live. I've always been a big fan of him, and it was he who inspired me to pick up the bassguitar 10 years ago. He had some problems with his volume-pedal which made the intro to Wearing the inside out sound like an earthquake in the PA.

Phil Manzanera (spelling?) was the weak point in my opinion. He destroyed the "on an island" solo when he, with no success, tried to double Gilmour's solo and it all turned out to sound like crap. His guitar was way to high as well.

Jon Carin was flawless as always. Nothing more to say really.

The Drummer was really a blast to watch. He played really heavy and made songs like Echoes sound just like it does on the Pompeii record. Just awesome. But it seems like nobody can duplicate Nick Mason's drum-intro on Time.

Lè Crap:
The french really don't have any idea when to clap (atleast not according to my book), which really suprised and pissed me off sometimes.

Dear French:
You don't clap during guitarsolos. Especially not David Gilmour's. He plays alot of them and it really sucks not to be able to hear the solo due to your random applauding.
You don't need to clap every time a new song has started. It's normal to clap in between songs, but you frenchies really had a thing for clapping DURING the songs where people really just should shut up and enjoy.

Lè Crap II:
Drunken Brit's!
My God. It really must have been a blast to drink yourselves so totally wasted during the concert that you made Comfortably numb sound like a poor Japanese karaoke-version of it's true self!
No need to stand upright, swaying side to side waving your arms blocking the view of 10 people behind you is there?

I really wish the french guy who sat beside me threw acid on your backs instead of water. Maybe you would have taken a seat during the last solo in comfortably numb

But hey. That's just my thoughts.

Other than two englishmen without manners, and frenchmen that need to take a applauding 101 course, the concert was just flawless.

I'm definitely looking forward to the last show at RAH in London!
I'll be damned if I have seats beside those two brit's!

Hey! It seems they're going to play "Echoes" in all the concerts!

As I guessed, some of the oldies vary from one concert to the other ("Fat Old Sun", "Wots... Uh the Deal"...) That's great since we may have a selection of songs which had been rarely played before live.

The drummer, Ged Lynch, isn't him the guy who played drums in the "Growing Up Tour" with Peter Gabriel? If that is the case I really like the way he plays drums live, he's very energetic.

I only wish I could go to one concert but i haven't got enough money to travel all the way to a foreign country just to watch a concert...

My word, they're actually playing the 1971 arrangement of "Fat Old Sun"!

Oh, sorry. It seems that Ged played on the record, not in the tour.
