There are lots of great 21st century bands mentioned in the "is it just me or does most new music suck ass" thread.

Sufjan Stevens, The Strokes, Spoon, Sigur Ros, My Morning Jacket

Re: Good New Bands

There's always plenty of older musical stuff to get into, but as far as newer stuff, this is what I've been into lately:
Sigur Ros
Panic! At The Disco
The Strokes
The White Stripes
The Raconteurs
Electric Six
Air
Belle and Sebastian
The Killers
Goldfrapp
Keane
Rooney
The Mars Volta
Modest Mouse
Interpol
The Thrills
The Arcade Fire
The Donnas
The Bravery
The Shins
The Stills
Living Things
Snow Patrol
Rilo Kiley
The Postal Service
She Wants Revenge
We Are Scientists
Pink Martini
Death Cab For Cutie
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Bright Eyes
Kings Of Leon
Mates Of State
Blur
The Walkmen

And as for singers-
James Blunt
Jack Johnson
Cat Power
Aqualung
Devendra Banhart
Sondre Lerche
Ben Folds
Nick Drake
Elliott Smith

I'm not saying that all of these people are totally awesome, but they're all fairly decent.

Green Day is pretty damn good. Get/listen to American Idiot and see if you like it.

I can't believe two seemingly competent people both recommend Panic! At The Disco...I'm ashamed and vomiting.

If you listen to Approaching Pavonis Mons By Balloon while driving around a lake during sunset....nothing will ever be the same.

My Thermodynamics teacher stated at the beginning of one class, that "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is the best concept album since Dark Side of the Moon." Although I would disagree because I think Animals and the Wall are better. I would say that it is the best concept album of our (Teens, Twenty-somethings) time. Highly recommended.

Re: Good New Bands

Excuse me but I don't think that bands like Blur or Radiohead or Green Day are all that new. They've got a bunch of records and a lot of recognition (the first two ones of course) already and we're not in the 90s anymore.

Re: Good New Bands

I personally find Green Day hideous...that is up until the last album. They have really come together, musically at least. Lyrically, I don't know, nor care, what they are saying.

As for "new" bands, I'm not sure why you want to limit yourself to just post-00 music because I believe there are some real gems that have gone undiscovered for some time.
