Richard Wright's new album is now official!

Pink Floyd Management finally confirmed that Rick is going to release his new solo album soon! After Gilmour's tour Wright is going to start recording so he's not going to join Roger and Nick for next summer Dark Side performances.
This is great news, Richard appeared to be in great shape at recent concerts, he's always reported playing with energy and enthusiasm, so the new album sounds promising. Let's hope David gives a hand on guitars! Broken China was an excellent album and I'm expecting something less conservative than On An Island... I can't wait! Way to go Rick!

It seems they're all building on the Live 8 success. I hope he comes out with something nice.

Glad to hear I really like Broken China. I hope it picks up where that left off.

Sweet ass. It looks like every PF member except Mason will have released a solo album (2 in Roger's case) within a period of a year. Imagine if you combined and jumbled them together? I think its fair to say they have all grown as musicians and composers SO much since ...whenever. After this wave of material from the members is finished (probably the last), it will be interesting to sit back, enjoy each album, and wonder how these amazing talents were once part of a single band.

Very cool. To be completely honest, Rick's always been my favorite when it came to solo work.

I'm afraid I strongly disagree here. Anyway, he went more "contemporary" in that album than any of the other guys in their solo efforts.

It all smacks of jumping on the bandwagon to avail themselves of the golden goose effect of last Summer's "final" appearance by the Floyd.

BDG may well want to distance himself from Pink Floyd in the future but he and RW are certainly cashing in on the increased popularity of Pink Floyd, rather than the popularity of their own - IMO highly feeble - solo efforts. I mean straight to number one; on musical value or PF kudos? You decide.

I do not include RWr in this criticism because he's said to have been willing, at least, to consider more appearances as PF. Oh, how fortunate it is for them to discount the Floyd legacy while riding on its coat-tails for their solo sales.

Broken China, IMO, sucked camel ass. Can't wait for his next one.

I'm not bitter, okay.

You're obviously right. Good old David these days refuses even to sign Floyd material... "only the new stuff" he says. But then again the thunderous applauses come in the second part of the show when Pink Floyd music finally arrives. How weird eh!!!

Yep...I'd have to agree with what you guys are saying. I would really like to see them do what Peter Gabriel did and no longer be ex-Floyd, but be their solo personas. When people mention Gabriel, a lot of people don't even know he was in Genesis...and whenever any of the Floyd members make a solo album, it's "oh, he's an ex-member of Floyd".

Yeah, funny how "giving the customers what they want" is a marketing message that still hasn't got through to BDG.

BTW, in my rather scathing post above I got my abbreviations the wrong way round, i.e.; "RW" is meant to read "RWr" and vice versa.

RW = Roger Waters
RWr = Rick Wright

Your example is very good but the two bands are very different. When Genesis made their first record they were all still teenagers. When Peter Gabriel left he was 24/25 and he made his first solo album at the age of 27. He was still looking for his own style/voice by trial and error.

When Pink Floyd released "The Wall" they were all over 30 (I think that Roger Waters was 35 or something). This means that they all had already found their own distinctive voices and whatever they have been doing next is just a logical continuation of what they had already done.

Anyway, it was a good example. I really admire the professional choices that Peter Gabriel has made in his career. He trully is an example of integrity (IMHO).

Re: Richard Wright's new album is now official!

What makes this damn simple for me is the fact that, all though they may be cashing off the Live 8 concert, the one thing that matters to me is theyre making music. I seriously dont care if they release albums which arnt all great, as long some of the material is good.

Noone is forcing people to listen to the album if they suck, but if the albums arnt made, noone can listen to em..

So in short, every album made is positiv.
