Re: On This Day

May 10, 1940

As Nazi armies attack The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, in nearby London Winston Churchill succeeds Neville "Peace in our time!" Chamberlain as British PM. Chamberlain, by now feeling a bit foolish for his "Adolf isn't really such a bad guy" stance, is glad to slip quietly back to Birmingham and obscurity.

Re: On This Day

May 11th, 2001: Douglas Noel Adams, beloved author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, two novels featuring "Holistic Detective" Dirk Gently, numerous witty and informative articles, various radio and television series (including HHGG and Doctor Who), various computer games, and a metric ton more, dies of a myocardial infarction at the age of 49.

Of note to Floydians is the fact that DNA played rhythm guitar on Floyd track Brain Damage/Eclipse with the band at a 1994 concert in London. He also named The Division Bell. David Gilmour even performed at Adams' memorial service.

A really hoopy frood, Adams knew where his towel was.
