| Re: Surgeon stops surgery to donate own blood to patient! I've never donated blood -- but I probably should. I don't even know what blood type I am. But if a couple of pints of my blood could save a person's life, it would totally be worth it.

| Re: Surgeon stops surgery to donate own blood to patient! I regularly donate blood, but my blood type is very common, O+. Besides, I'm a bone marrow donor voluntary, and everyone should be sign up to be a bone marrow donor.

| Re: Surgeon stops surgery to donate own blood to patient! It's not simple, you have to fill out some health history forms. I think one condition is if you did any operation in the last year, you are not apt to be one.

As far as I know you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old or 16 years old if allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days). I think certain things like having lived abroad in the past 6 months might prevent you from donating. In anycase, professionals at the donation site make the final call.
