I hyave to go with PinkAndersen on this one. Floyd weren't quite huge stars. I think it was mostly a combination of his own psychosis and huge amounts of drugs he consumed.

Re: WYWH cover- what does it mean?

While y'all are standing around wondering what I'm going to say or do next, what about STAYING ON TOPIC around here and discussing the artwork on the album cover in question. Like:
Where was the photo of the diver taken, and how come there are no ripples in the water around him? your answere here:_________

How do the photos on the front cover (burning man) differ between the original vinyl releaase and the newer CD covers?
your answer here:________________

What was the ORIGINAL concept for the shot in the desert dunes?
your answer here:__________________

Re: WYWH cover- what does it mean?

Easy folks, PinkAnderson may well BE the next ATH, but since the last exercise was a resounding failure, perhaps a different tack may prove successful.

So with that (though why suddenly this became a quiz thread, I don't know) I'll take a stab...

1a. Mono Lake, California? (Been there)
1b. He's doing an handstand, not a dive.
2. Don't know. (don't really care)
3. Don't know. (don't really care)

Boy, I wonder who that poor bastard ATH was...sounds like he was a real NAST person, oui?
Anyway, not bad for an amateur, Ms. Bull. The lake is indeed Mono Lake in eastern California. Too bad the water level has dropped so much that one can hardly recognize the spot where the picture was taken.
The model for the picture was indeed doing a handstand, but in addition he had to hold his breath for over a minute to allow the ripples in the water to dissipate. That's why the photographers hired a yoga expert - he could control his breath AND have excellent balance!
The original concept for the sand dunes was to have a swimmer partly embedded in the dunes, appearing to be -what else- swimming through the sand. The band thought it looked silly and the idea was eliminated.
As far as the burning man - he's facing the opposite direction on the original album cover.
So now you know.
-Pink Anderson, public servant.

Firstly, that's Mr. Bride of a Bull, Or Byron, thank you.

So my answers were fairly correct, for an amateur. Hoorah!

Too bad about the water level, yeah well, it's probably for the best.

"She will take it back."

Re: WYWH cover- what does it mean?

How come they wanted the water to be unrippled? What effect were they aiming for? Reflection? It's a nice surreal pic though. I have a vinyl from 1975 but it's the same as my 1997 cd? I heard one difference was the man was standing up rather then leaning over. Anyways...
