Adelaide Symphony Orchestra plays Pink Floyd

Hi there. Tomorrow night (1/7) I've been invited to the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra concert playing the music of Pink Floyd. I have never seen such a thing and would be keen for anyone who has to write a few comments. My mates went to a similar show a few months ago where the ASO played the music of Led Zeppelin. I believe they hybridise the genres with a fully amped rock band at the same time. I know Metallica did their own stuff with an orchestra and apparently it went right off like a bomb. Can't wait to feel the earth swell to the dramatic strains of In The Flesh?. This will be the first time I've experienced the live Floyd sound (apart from jamming with the boyz in the shed) since about 1990 when I saw a troupe name of 'Think Floyd' at the now defunct Old Lion Hotel. They were fantastic. I never knew what became of them.

Sydney, you participating? I'd be surprised if you missed it.

The show was incredible. They played DSotM minus Any Colour, an abridged Barrett sequence of Scarecrow, Bike and Astronomy Domine, then Dogs of War, Shine On (slightly abridged), Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Signs of Life, Learning to Fly, and an encore of Another Brick II featuring the Australian Youth Choir.

Shine On was the stand out for me. The lead violinist played Dave's solo prior to the vocal to a standing ovation. Great Gig was also a standout, as was, surprisingly, Us and Them. The three backing singers gave very Floydworthy performances during Great Gig. The audience were very still for most of the program, but at the end the whole tribe were on their feet clapping along, so that was a relief. You can see the little Mr Screen, but there was no film projected. The light show wasn't bad for a home grown version with a few red lasers in tapestry during the final numbers. Overall, it was an amazing experience and probably as close to the original as I'm likely to get bar the Oz Floyd Show.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the camera off long exposure without the flash, so the above is the only semi-focussed picture I was able to produce. Boo hoo. At least it was the pink one.

The band and the ASO will be taking this show to New Zealand in July.

That looks like fun. I wonder how the symphonic version of On The Run sounds like.

Seperate events, Syd. The Radiohead / Jeff Buckley / Muse / Sigur Ros event will be on July 27 & 28. That show only runs for one hour, but it sounds like a trippy set. You going?

At this time, there appears to be no interstate tour of the ASO/Floyd show. NZ fans, don't hesitate to book tickets as soon as you can. The concert was sweeeet as.

Good form, Vera.

Comfy Numb. Unfortunately, the poster has edited the ending. The band volumed right down and the ork brought the tune to the sweetest end. I almost had a mancry.

A little bit of money.
