| Hi, I'm new here, Matthew's the name. I've been a casual fan of The Floyd for about twenty years {I'm in my mid 40's} & I've been itching to experiance the band live for years, and was lucky enough to catch Roger Waters yesterday at Hyde Park. I'm not much of a reviewer, but this was what I posted on another forum I visit:- The first part of Waters' set was a trawl through the back catalogue, great versions of "In the Flesh","Vera" & "Bring the boys back home". The highlight though was a version of "Wish You Were Here", interspersed with footage featuring the great Syd, the song finised with the shot of a single Poppy on the screen behind the band. On the 90th anniversary of The Somme, a lovely touch. There was a strong anti war tone to the whole first half, briiliantly done though. A great version of the Fletcher Memorial Home. The first half was really well performed & visually excellent. A small break followed & the band was joined by Nick Mason for a version of "Dark Side of the Moon". The speakers we were stood in front of, came into their own at this point, as some of the recorded effects, tha laughing, spoken interludes, the clocks , and cash registers on "Money" boomed out just behind us. The whle thing was pretty true to the album, as you'd expect. But it was skilfully executed & the band was really tight. The show finished with blistering versions of "Comfortably Numb" & "Another Brick in the Wall". The whole evening was really beyond my powers of description, the band, featuring Snowy White, Andy Fairweather Low, P.P. Arnold, Katie Kissoon were exemplary. The light show was fantastic, the atmosphere superb {as was the smell of fresh weed everywhere}. The music was played with a precision & understated power which was a joy to listen to. The Who, who are on Hyde Park tonight are going to find that an incredibly hard act to follow. Don't know if I've done it justice, but it was sublime, I'm easily pleaed but that was a terrific show! |
