Battersea Power Station

Hello to any Londoners out there, I have a query (or if you aren't from London but know the answer keep reading!).

I may (hopefully) be in your fair town at the end of the year and one of the things i'd love to do is replicate the cover of Animals (pig excluded due to the fact im not a millionaire). My question is does anyone know from where (specifically) the photo was taken? I've been checking out Google Earth and other pictures but it seems like theres been a fair bit of demolition eg. the buildings in the foreground and the railway tracks etc.

It looks like the photo was taken off the ground so is there still a building across the way? It has also just occured to me that it could have been taken from a helicopter so then id be stuck and just have to take a basic tourist photo from a nearby bridge or something.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Battersea Power Station

When I used to be a London bus driver on Route 24, the southern terminus of which route was on the northern embankment (Grosvenor Road) of the River Thames, directly opposite the Battersea Power Station.

It was an excellent spot for quiet contemplation for this Floyd fan.

During my very early shifts on the above bus route, I would often spy hot air balloons lifting off shortly after sunrise a short distance to the East on the south (Power station) side of the river. These balloons could provide a superb view of the power station complex, albeit from a short distance.

Perhaps you should investigate balloon rides - I wouldn't have thought they would be operating, and cannot remember seeing them aloft, during winter months. One can but try.

Note: The route 24 bus is very good for when you're in the centre (West End) of town amidst most the tourist attractions, because it passes many of them, including Trafalgar Square, Palaces of Westminster (Houses of Parliament), Westminster Abbey and others.

The Battersea end is near the junction of Lupus Street, Peabody Avenue and Grosvenor Road.

Good luck.

Re: Battersea Power Station

I took pictures of the building from the train on my way up to see Roger Waters on Saturday, then saw the shots of it on the big screen during the gig, very cool
