Syd Barrett dead, age 60.

Sad. Very sad. Pink Floyd was the last of the superstar, mega-famous bands that started in the 60s that still had all of their original members still alive. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Who and CCR all lost members before Pink Floyd did. And some of those bands had two dead members before Pink Floyd even had one. I just got back from fishing at a secluded spot in Canada... I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. One of the first songs I ever learned to play was a simple version of Terrapin... He was, in many ways, a fortunate man. He reached so many with his art and music. He will be missed.

Come back and let us cheer you up, Chrissy. It's been too long.

Brain Damage Online posted the link to an interesting interview with Syd's sister. Very informative and touching at the same time, it shows how many misconceptions apparently are still running about Syd's, or should we say Roger's, life.

Surprising and comforting, I'd say.

Second time I cried because someone I don't know personally died. The first time was when a great poet and actor named Sol died. And now...Syd. Can't believe it! I love his music. I've been away for the last 9 days and just coming back from my trip, I see this news! I'm... simply shocked. But you got to go sometime. Well, these are my last words: Shine on you crazy diamond.

Glad to hear, Chrissy. If it weren't for Summer break, I too would be up to my ears in business...er...busy-ness...er... You know what I mean.

Syd's passing was trully unexpected, but as my colleague and fellow Floydian agreed, we'd got used to being without Syd man, many years ago. His passing was just, to use Roger's words, the final cut.
