Syd Barrett dead, age 60.

I've been disconnected from the news for a while and I've just known today about Syd's end.

I'm really sad. He was a genius and he had to endure a really tough life. I just hope that his last years have been peaceful.

Shine On wherever you are Syd!

You will be missed.

my god... i hardly imagined myself when one of them passed away... well, unfortunately i knew of this event the 19th due to vacations in the U.S.A. so i never had any contact with news or internet...

when i was told by a friend i was devastated and just worked for me a few hours isolation, an ipod playlist with complete barret discography, a couple of tears, and the Little Prince book (yeah i totally connected the actual situation to the book: a young prince that shined wherever he went until he got lost.. and also at the end when the prince levaes..pretty sad)

well, Syd, although my #1 wish in my "Wishlist before I die" wont ever be accomplished (#1: go to cambridge and meet the genius)... you'll be always on my mind when i look up and admire the stars (another coincidence with little prince), and i'll remember you're up there shinin... you'll always be my inspiration... Shine On

Has enough time passed for me to point out that we are all overstating the importance of his passing. I feel for his family and hope that he has passed into something better, but really most people don't know who he was, he made one album with the Floyd and the sound of the Floyd in 1983 (the last time Roger Nick and Rick played together) is certainly not the same as it was at the time of PATGOD. Other than Marcy's Playground and David Bowie, no one has really given him credit for influencing their style.

RIP old boy, but don't let these post-mortem celebrations go to your ego.

This is terrible news....I'm shocked to hear it...and at such a young age too...but diabetes claims a lot of people way too young...shame our Syd was the latest victim.
