It was too painful for me to listen to this album for the first few days after I heard the news, but maybe I'll listen to it right now.

SOYCD 1-9 is my all time fav Floyd song, but I haven't listened to the studio album in quite awhile...I became enamoured with the bootlegs made during the '77 In The Flesh tour, and actually like them better now, poor sound quality, warts and all.

I've never paid much attention to the Syd years of the Floyd, and have no actual emotional attachment to him other than to salute him for his part in founding the band.

I used to feel like that about syd but my BF got me real upset when we heard he died cuz he was really into it. And WYWH is my favorite album, so even if i'm not into what Syd did himself, he'e very important to me.

Re: WYWH...a tribute to the album and Syd...come talk

WYWH is my fave Floyd album as well. The guitar solo at the end of Have A Cigar is my favourite Gilmour solo ever. Everything about it I love! The phrasing, note selection, and tone are quintessential David Gilmour imo. SOYCD Pts. 1-9 is my favourite song on the album, and that classic four note guitar phrase is one of the most hauntingly beautiful moments in recorded music. It's one of those songs that seems to last 4-5 minutes even though it's almost 14! Such a beautiful yet sad song when one thinks about how it relates to Syd. I could go on and on and on about this album! Beyond brilliant if that's possible!

I have to agree with stratters. I rather enjoy the bootlegs more than the actual album (though "Have a Cigar" is not Roger or Dave's cup of tea, I'll take the original Roy Harper version). Overall I find the album, especially SOYCD, can be at times boring and tedious to listen to, but once in awhile, when I am in the mood it hits the spot.

SOYCD 1-5 stands out the most. They've never approximated it live.

I dont believe I've told you all that I acctually got a letter back, it was like they didn't even look at it, said something like "We appreciate your concern. Your ideas for the future were gladly accepted...yadaa yadaa yadaa..." it was dumb

It disturbs me that they spent $.39 and a few minutes of some bureaucrat's time to even respond.

Yes. Thats our government at work, and that was back when our nation was ACCTUALLY still afraid off terrorists. And it was proboly a set down message that was sitting in a drawer, the secratary just chunked it in the "OUT" pile.

Re: WYWH...a tribute to the album and Syd...come talk

Another thing about WYWH is that I'm glad that PF decided to split SOYCD in two parts. Even though I like to think of it as one big song that's been divided and both parts are equally great in my eyes. I've always liked how on certain Floyd albums the start and the end of the album are similar to the point that the album is like one big loop. Brilliant idea!
