Maybe so, but the gulf between them isn't nearly as wide as Loder would have us believe.

the thing is that first i checked the list of albums and saw that most of them werent rated (not even the Wall which i saw it had only 2 stars in RS book of all albums) and PATGOD wasnt even there. Then i saw that TDB and 3 live albums had 2/5 stars, and then saw Final Cut with 5 stars along with DSOTM and WYWH so that made me curious and i went to check the complete review on TFC album and saw, among many things, this:
(these are fragments)

This may be art rock's crowning masterpiece, but it is also something more. With The Final Cut, Pink Floyd caps its career in classic form, and leader Roger Waters–for whom the group has long since become little more than a pseudonym–finally steps out from behind the "Wall" where last we left him. The result is essentially a Roger Waters solo album, and it's a superlative achievement on several levels.

Dismissed in the past as a mere misogynist, a ranting crank, Waters here finds his focus at last, and with it a new humanity.

By comparison, in almost every way, The Wall was only a warm-up.

...the Wall movie, a grotesquely misconceived collaboration between Waters and director Alan Parker, was released to a general thud of incomprehension.

Whether this will be their last album as a group (the official word is no, but Wright is apparently GONE FOR GOOD, and even the faithful Nick Mason relinquishes his drum chair on one cut to session player Andy Newmark) is not as compelling a question as where Waters will go with what appears to be a new-found freedom. He plans to record a solo album for his next project, and one hopes that just the novelty of becoming a full-fledged human will be enough to keep him profitably occupied for many years to come.

This review is by Kurt Loder. Well just have to say that this guy doesnt know a lil bout pink floyd by sayin Rick went out for good and for UNDERRATE AND INSULT the previous work of worlds best band. im sad bout the fact there are people that think the way loder does....
heres the link: http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/.../the_final_cut

What do you have to say about this?

I agree with it, for the most part. The Wall is a pile of pig vomit if you ask me.

No, because we know your opinion about The Wall.

Re: Disappointed by Rolling Stone

pretty good article about syd in latest RS(#1006) with LED ZEPPELIN on cover...story by DAVID FRICKE is well written, here are a couple excerps...

In Los Angeles, during an engagement at the Cheetah, the Floyd were befriended by the club's house band:the future Alice Cooper, then called the Nazz. "Pink Floyd basically ran out of money-they didn't have any place to stay,"says singer Alice Cooper. "So they stayed with us,in our house in Venice. I remember coming down to breakfast one morning, and there's Syd at the table. He's got purple crushed-velvet pants on,and he is staring at this box of corn flakes-the same way you and I would watch television. He was watching something that we couldn't see."

In 1982,Gilmour described the unique tribulations of workin with Barrett on his two solo albums:"You had to prerecord without him, working from one version of the song he had done, and then sit Syd down afterwords and try to get him to play and sing along, with a lot a droppin in.Or you could do it the other way around, where you'd get him to do a performance of it's own and then try to dub everything else on top of it."
Gilmour laughed at the memory with a kind of droll exhaustion."The concept of him performing with another bunch of musicians was clearly impossible, because he'd change the song every time. He'd never do a song the same way twice- I think quite deliberately."

I think it's just one man's opinion. Everyone knows opinions are like a*******, everyone's got one. I disagree with Loder's opinion of The Final Cut. It's a good album, not amazing and certainly not Floyd's best.

I'm not very upset about what he writes. I have not the same taste as him about Pink Floyd music, but I think noone has my taste, so it's no reason to judge him badly by that.

What is your taste?

Re: Disappointed by Rolling Stone

My copy came in the post yesterday - not much new in the article...oh well. The story has already been told so many times, there's not much else that anybody can say.

i totally agree with your assessment of article ..i stopped at Barnes and Noble to read article last nite...i thought article was a bit negative of dave and roger from the time Animals came out to the end of the band with both in it...

Re: Disappointed by Rolling Stone

RS has finally pushed me to consider cancelling subscription...40th anniversary issue has 40 Songs That Changed The World...No PINK FLOYD... i can live with multiple songs by Beatles,Dylan,Stones,Ray Charles and Chuck Berry...But,i have a problem with PF out and Donna Summer,Madonna and Britney Spears in..

Chrissy must have a lot of clout getting her balded headed idol on list...
