My Father used to work for Columbia Records. At the time they were pressing the "Wish You Were Here" album. He used to always come home with free records and one day he handed me "Wish You Were Here". I've been hooked ever since.

Hmm... I don't know

I think it was either Comfortably Numb or Wish You Were Here that I had heard, so I bought Wish You Were Here, enjoyed it and bought the rest, but no one introduced me to it. I think it was through reading guitar magazines or something, I don't know. I just kept hearing about them and my curiosity led me to them.

But what is weird is how I have such deja vu-like feelings when I listen to them. Though with Dark Side it of course touches a side of me emotionally, but I also remember the first time I heard it, where I was both physically, emotionally, etc.

Yet I feel the same about Fhe Final Cut and yet it's not for the same reason... Hmm...

Though my uncle was a fan of Floyd and I must've heard them from an early age(My diamond years!) and that's why I have such a sentimental deja vu feeling when I hear them, and of course the fact that they're great pieces of art and I like them for of course other personal reasons.

I also have his The Final Cut record that he had when it first came out. It's in perfect condition since he was a neat-freak with his records as I've heard. His others were given away to another relative but if she's willing I might be given to them if she doesn't mind.

No particular person turned me onto the band. I was heavy into Led Zeppelin and Metallica and stuff (the latter band I don't really like anymore) and had bought some magazine with the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos in it.

Now, at this point, I had heard of a band called Pink Floyd many times, and thought it was a rather interesting name, but didn't really pay any heed to the band or music (of which I had heard none...except for Another Brick In The Wall Part 2). I noticed that the solo for Comfortably Numb was number 4 on the list and that David Gilmour was a respected guitarist, and so I downloaded the song and heard the solo and was completely blown away. (The entire song wasn't the fast and upbeat kind of rock I was used to, so it was rather odd to hear at first). I went out and bought The Wall and to this day I still enjoy that album's theme the most and have a great respect for the feel that Gilmour puts into his solos, which, in the end, I think is what puts him in the same echelon as Page and Clapton and those guys.

While, technically, or even to watch his fingers is not so impressive, to watch him feel his solo and have each note reverberate and course through his entire body and be squeezed out with every bit of emotion that he possesses within him so that we may comprehend this same exhilarating feeling is truly amazing. One does not even need to see him most times to hear the human inside of the notes whilst listening to one's CD player.

Honestly, I cannot remember the first Floyd song I heard, nor can I remember the first Floyd album I listened to all the way through. I guess since I have listened to so many songs, and so many albums so many times, they must have just all blended together.

Huh, that is very strange. I had never thought about it until I saw this thread, and I am racking my brain to try and figure it out now. I do know that 'Dark Side' was actually one of the latter Floyd albums to join my colection---how about that? A Floyd fan born in the 80's,who has heard 'Ummagumma' before 'Dark Side'

Who got me into Pink Floyd?

My high school astronomy teacher. It's not surprising that he likes their music, I think, what with those the outer space references and all in the lyrics.

Nobody. I found Pink Floyd by myself. Another Brick In The Wall pt2 was often on the radio. Then I got The Wall album. It was amazing I loved that album from the first time I listened to it. I had never heard that kind of music. So beatiful and true songs about life (life in madness). The first time when I listened to an album like it was one song. The first time when Ilistened to music in dark. I found the best music. I still continue to discover the music of Pink Floyd.

hmmm, my best friend had dsotm from his sister or something. he brought it over and turned on time(while telling me to turn up the volume and sit next to the stereo) so after i had that little suprise i was like"wow, this sucks" but then we listened to it in a different state of mind...and i was like"hey, pretty good" i got hooked but all i need is the music, most of the time.

o yea, on another adventure i had, all i saw was that i was in a black room with like 50 prisms with the rainbows just flying around. i must say, it was a message from god. he was tellin me "go listen to pink floyd" well, i guess thats what he was trying to say.

I was in grade school when I first heard Another Brick In The Wall and in High School when I first heard Comfortably Numb. Then I met my ex boyfriend and he was a huge Floyd fan. I started listening to it more and more. Tripped a few times with friends and listened to their albums and had a personal epiphany about life. Watched The Wall a few times. I've been hooked ever since.
