I agree. When making this list I knew that I would forget a few even though i got most of the ones I think are deserving. Richie Blackmore and Rory Gallagher are a couple of others I missed.Somehow I also missed Stevie Ray Vaughn too Opps.

Re: "My" top 50 guitar players

My list:

#50 thru #30 in no particular order:

Freddie King
Johnny Winter
Peter Green
Keith Richards
Steve Morse
Yngwie Malmsteen
Andy Timmons
Carlos Montoya
Albert Collins
Joe Walsh
Gary Rossington
Steve Vai
Michael Wilton (Queensryche)
Chet Atkins
Richie Blackmore
Randy Rhoads
Duane Allman
Lindsay Buckingham
Brian May
Snowy White
Zakk Wylde
Jonny Lang
Kenny Wayne Shepard
Jimmy Page
Alex Lifeson
Jeff Healey
Derek Trucks
Robben Ford
Ry Cooder
Vinny Moore

My top 20:
20. Les Paul (everyone knows about the guitar he invented, few know how great and innovative a player he was/is. Listen to his stuff. 50 years on, it still sounds fresh.)
19. Buddy Guy (Plays the blues like he was born to. He was.)
18. John Fogerty (king of swamprock)
17. Peter Frampton (a tad "poppy", but helluva player)
16. Al Pitrelli (Savatage and Trans-Siberian Orchestra)

15. Roy Buchanan
14. Danny Gatton
13. Jeff Beck
12. Ronnie Earl ("master o' th' stratocaster" he calls himself. he ain't wrong)
11. Steve Petrucci

10. Marty Friedman (sure, Megadeth sucks, but Marty's solo stuff is ace.)
9. Steve Hackett
8. Gary Moore
7. Eric Johnson
6. Joe Satriani

5. David Gilmour
4. Steve Howe (if you can suffer through Jon Anderson's pretentious vocals/lyrics, Steve has mucho jaw-dropping licks interwoven throughout the YES catalog.)
3. Stevie Ray Vaughan
2. Eric Clapton

1. Mark Knopfler (the guy just flat dazzles me. I love him.)

Yep. You're right. No Hendrix on my list.

Figure Keef @ #21.

He should probably have been #9 instead of Hackett. So sue me.

Re: "My" top 50 guitar players

Nice list Fulghum, but I would´ve put Steve Lukather on the list somewhere. I didn't understand how good he is before I saw him in Oslo earlier this year. I think B.B. King is great as well.

Re: "My" top 50 guitar players

Tom Verlaine should definitely be on any top 50 guitarists list. Richard Lloyd as well.

I like Radiohead, but the Jonny Greenwood work isn't very evidenced. It's not a band to listen the guitar solos.
