Re: Historical Sites

As the year comes to a close the city of Trenton gears up for the 230th anniversary of the most famous battle of the Revolution. The Battle of Trenton which was preceded by the more famous Crossing of the Delaware River by George Washington and his battered Colonial army. As 1776 came to a close the British and Hessian forces along with a good amount of local loyalists were celebrating there impressive whipping of Washingtons forces in New York and New Jersey. The Continental army had about 2000 men cross the delaware on Christmas night and march 10 miles in a blizzard to hope to surprise the 1200 Hessians who were garrisioned at Trenton. The surprise was complete as the Hessians were defeated and Washingtons Army was saved as was the cause.Click on website below to learn more.

We visit the Cliveden tomorrow for the Battle of Germantown Re-Enactment on the exact site of the Oct. 4th 1777 battle that George Washington led to drive the Brits from the sleepy hamlet outside Philadelphia. Although unsuccesful the Continentals had the Redcoats in full flight for the 1st time in the war until poor communication and lack of visability(Fog) and Redcoat reinforcements arrived along with a stubborn defense by the 40th Reg. of Foot in the Cliveden grinded the attack to a halt. The Americans retreated back to Whitemarsh as the Brits pursued cautiously
