Re: Historical Sites

Mark,

My son and I just spent the weekend with the Boy Scouts camping at Saratoga Battlefield (about 20 minutes from where I live). Oct 17 was the anniversary of the surrender of General Burgoyne at Saratoga - a turning point in the war.

Cool place, fascinating history.

Re: Historical Sites

The battle of Saratoga happened around the same time as the Battle of Germantown in Oct.of 1777 in the then suburbs of Philadelphia. Unfortunateley the Continentals intentions at G-Town were not as successful as they were at Saratoga where General Burgoyne was defeated by the great General Arnold who later turned against his new country.Arnold as you probably never knew was the hero of the battle and was also wounded in his greatest moment by a Hessian musket ball. If Benidict Arnold would have perished that day he would have been one of the American Revolutions greatest figures. Instead he survived and then later turncoated.

Re: Historical Sites

I don't think there was any nastiness intended. It could be that because the thread is named Historical Sites, Lars decided to post a pic of a historical site? Perhaps he has visited the place and it had an impact on him?

Re: Historical Sites

Likely.

My dad used to participate in a lot of those historical to do's around southeastern PA. He was/is a beekeeper and my mother had made him a historically correct costume to wear as he showed various tools and tricks of the trade. I usually got to accompany him as his 'bee assistant'. Quite fun.

My feelings the same Eddy instead of rippin' olde Lars for his choice of historical places maybe we should ask why he chose a concentration camp picture. I myself went to Dachau about 20 years ago when i was in Germany and it was something i will never forget.
