This thread is right up my alley... me being in an instrumental band, and all.

My favorite instrumental is probably... I really don't know. But my favorites are Walk, Don't Run by the Ventures, Orion by Metallica, V-2 Scneider (sic.) by David Bowie, and Any Colour You Like by PF.

And 'the lemon song'? Robert Johnson deserves a credit for some of those lyrics. The good ones.

Now you're talking.
Check out Miles Davis from '69-'75. Please!

Also:
Paul Gilbert will send you home with your head down ready to pawn your guitar. If you think you know great guitar playing be sure you have heard Racer x or solo P. Gilbert. Top-notch as Stratman has said. Needs no hype.

Another? Supertzar by black sabbath.

Their newest album, "Uninvisible", is very good. I highly recommend it. Again, if you ever get a chance to go to a show, do not pass it up! It's a hell of a ride...

Glad to see you young turks finding The Ventures. WDR is the tip of the Venture's iceburg. They did lots of great stuff. Fun to listen to, easy to play. Long Live Surf Rock!

Favourite instrumental... gotta be Bron-Yr-Aur by Led Zeppelin. Best acoustic guitar playing I've heard. It's just so beautiful

The Call of Ktulu by Metallica (Symphony version) would be my second choice.

Even though it's dance music, would 'Song of Life' by Leftfield count as 'instrumental'?

That's a good question, Sarah. I always thought that the Ventures did it, but I can't find it on any of their greatest hit collections (which I know is a crappy place to look). I don't know who did the original Pipeline.
And yes, Pipeline rules!

The Chantays. Of course, the Ventures did a cover of it too.

I have a CD called "The Ventures 'Surfing'" which has 30 surf-rock songs on it, including Pipeline and "Surf Rider" which is one of my fav's. (It was the "Outro Song" on the Movie Pulp Fiction.)
Also, for those who like W-D-R, try Walk Don't Run "64----(more reverb=better.)

The Chantays? Hmm.

Walk Don't Run - '64? Sound interesting. I like reverb; I prefer loads of it. So I guess I would like that version.
