"On An Island"

DAVID GILMOUR - ON AN ISLAND!

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has more than one reason to celebrate on his 60th birthday next year - March 6th 2006 sees the long-awaited release of his new solo album "On An Island".

Released on EMI Records, the album is the first solo release from David since 1984's "About Face". Following the release of "On An Island", David will embark on a European and American tour during the months of March, April and May 2006 - and we should have details of these dates soon.

"On An Island" is produced by David, along with Chris Thomas and Phil Manzanera. Orchestrations are by the renowned composer Zbigniew Preisner and were recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The title track teams Gilmour with David Crosby and Graham Nash - three of the greatest voices in contemporary music. Richard Wright, Robert Wyatt, Jools Holland, and Guy Pratt also feature on the album.

Re: "On An Island"

I appear to have hard time caring about a David Gilmour solo album, but I'll probably get it anyway. I have no idea why though.

I care less about the album and more about the tour. But, knowing my luck, he's too fat to get on a plane to Oz.

Re: "On An Island"

I seem to have an intense dislike for grampa Dave and his mediocre releases.

Re: "On An Island"

I, for one, am quite excited by the prospect of a new release from Dave. I was never really sold on 'About Face', but his first solo was a very good album.

Guy Pratt has made some interesting / enticing comments about the sound Dave is producing with the guitars on the new album...and Dave himself has made comments (at the Hall of Fame ceremony) about having "new things to be thrilled about".

I am certainly waiting with some anticipation. And being the day after my own birthday it will be cause for further celebration in my own home.

Re: "On An Island"

I think all of Dave's solo releases have been great. I look forward to hearing this new CD. All of you who are negative about this new release please give it a chance, it may be better than you think!

I'll be buying it. Big Dave has never disappointed me yet.

Re: "On An Island"

I am really excited to hear about his release. Now, ill finally be able to get his other albums, as i find them quite hard to track down. Now, they will be sitting right next to the new one in his very own, self titled rack. Hey, Roger got one... why not Dave?

Same here. I've enjoyed his solo work so far. A few songs on "About Face" sound dated ("Near the End," "Murder" and "Out of the Blue" stand up best I think) but David's first solo album is ace.

Wonder if "Smile" will be on the new album.

Like Stratters and Driven, BDG's new CD will be in my collection. Just to hear that man play guitar is reason enough to own the disk. I'm hoping that he'll be stopping somewhere w/in a few hundred miles of update NY.
