It's a real photo. Roger and Dave both sing "Point Me At the Sky."

Re: point me at the sky

I think its them trying to sound like The Beatles more than Syd.

The song's a bit daft though, much better than It Would Be So Nice.

Re: point me at the sky

The first time I heard it, I loved it. But then I realised how similar it is to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and the more I heard it the less I liked it.

Re: point me at the sky

I think the studio version is pretty much crap, but the 'live' BBC recording is a lot better.

Re: point me at the sky

Just a side note about early singles - I have a WYWH "Limited Edition" CD that I got from amazon.com a while back, and it came with some early singles as bonus tracks. Here's the tracklisting:

WYWH:
SOYCD (Part 1)
Welcome to the Machine
Have a Cigar
WYWH
SOYCD (Part 2)
Early Singles:
Arnold Layne
Candy and a Currant Bun
See Emily Play
Scarecrow
Apples and Oranges
Paint Box
It Would Be So Nice
Julia Dream
Point Me At the Sky
Careful With That Axe Eugene

Hope that helps.

Re: point me at the sky

One of THE best early Floyd tracks!! It sucks it was only available on the Shine On Box Set back when I first heard the song (1997 or so)--ended up paying $150 just to hear that ONE TRACK!!! Great track, though!

Re: point me at the sky

I don't like it at all. Pink Floyd is a great band because (among other things) of their very distinctive style which makes them a class of their own in rock history. In "Point Me at the Sky" they tried to make a pop single that sounded a lot like the Beatles and which wasn't written by Syd (the one who could actually write good pop singles).

Re: point me at the sky

Hey! I think the song fits well to the 45rpm single release anyway, because the B-side was pretty much opposite in all aspects of "Point Me at the Sky."
You get one poppy-poppy british tune, and then the raging nightmare!!!

Re: point me at the sky

I have always thought that Point Me At The Sky was one of the few radio friendly songs that the Floyd had in the early days. It's a wonder it didn't become a hit.
