The Wall versions

Hi there, I have a question. I have copies of The Wall on vinyl and CD and I just want to make sure that they are the same versions.

CD details: Columbia, c2k 36183 & ck 36184, printed in Canada
Vinyl details: Columbia, 36184 & 36185, printed in Canada

The CD says "digitally mastered analog recording" on the front, but I could take that to mean one of two things: (1) it was remastered in the sense that it was EQed, compressed, etc. (2) or it was simply transferred straight from analog tape to CD.

I have read that Columbia produced a remastered version in 1997. How can I tell if my CD is the remaster or the analog to digital transfer?

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Re: The Wall versions

Well I look forward to meeting him.

I just found this. These appear to be identical to the CD I have except the CD it's self is silver, not black.

Those are the non-remastered versions. They are from a 2nd generation tape, similar to the Canadian first-issue CDs of Gilmour's solo albums, and so not the best sound quality. The 1997 remaster has got a lot of extra compression, which I think lessens the impact somewhat. If you can find it, the best-sounding digital release of this album is Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs' superb 24-karat gold-pressed CD released in 1990. It's expensive to get, but there are copies of it floating around online. It's the only one close to the vinyl, in my opinion!

Hello, incidentally!
