What are the crowd chanting at the start of the CD and before Wish you were here? Sounds like a football chant? "Oway ohwoo, Oway ohwoo etc."

Completely vexed.

I always thought it was a football chant aswell! Except I thought they were shouting "Liverpool and Liverpool" etc.

They chant "Liverpool Liverpool" on the end of "Fearless" on Meddle. I don't think that's what they're chanting on the Pulse CD though!

There must have been someone in the audience who was doing the chanting who can shed some light on this, surely!

It never sounded like it had any words to me...some weird thing--almost sounds like "ai-ey-ah-oh..." over and over. But if someone can get words out of this, I will be very impressed!

It's from Meddle. And it's a football chant from England. On Meddle they sing "you'll never wlak alone" with is the vry for Liverpool. Interestingly, Roger is an Arsenal supportor, just a little trivia.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" was a UK no.1 hit for Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963, this later became Liverpool FC's anthem, chanted by the fans at most games. Subsequently Pink Floyd sampled this chanting on Fearless...

But, it ain't what they're chanting on PULSE!

It's actually a football chant which you can often hear from the audience at rock-pop concerts in Italy. That part of PULSE is recorded in Modena (Italy).

Mad Yannis! Do we know each other?

Are there any words to the chant? I'm afraid I can't understand...

Thanks for the welcome! It's a nice forum indeed. By the way the chant has no words, its Italian spelling is "Alè-Oò".

OK...that makes sense. My knowledge of Italian is limited--I do much better with READING it than hearing it. (Studying Spanish helped me to understand the language somewhat--even though I probably couldn't put together even a simple answer to a question!)

Yannis--are you from Italy by any chance?

And I'm glad to see you here! We Wright-fans...there aren't very many of us! It's always good to see more!

Yes! I am from Italy and I was at that particular concert (Modena 1994).
It's good to find other fans of Rick Wright and his good old "Rick's turkish delight"!!!
