Special 40th anniversary edition of Piper

It seems like EMI has confirmed Pink Floyd will release a specia 3CD edition of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Usually I'm sceptical to special editions, but a 3CD release is maybe something to spend a few kroners on.

Right. That and a couple of "Interestellar Overdrives" and they can fill 5 cd's.

Re: Special 40th anniversary edition of Piper

It's just the regular album in stereo and mono (there's 2 discs right there) plus the "First Three Singles" disc remastered with a couple of bonus mixes. Nothing that most collectors don't already have, really - but I'm sure the packaging will be worth it.

And Im expecting 25 euros for it too.
Just like they did with deluxe extended editions of Cream's Disreali Gears and Blind Faith's debut.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the original release of Pink Floyd's first album 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn', a special edition is planned for release via EMI Records on Tues 28th August in North America, and Monday September 3rd in Europe.

The packaging, designed by Storm Thorgerson, resembles a cloth-covered book, and holds 3 CD discs, along with a 12-page reproduction Syd Barrett notebook. Discs 1 and 2 will contain the full 'Piper' album, represented in both stereo and mono versions. Both have been newly remastered by James Guthrie. Disc 3 includes bonus tracks, including the following: all the Pink Floyd singles from 1967, ('Arnold Layne', 'See Emily Play', and 'Apples And Oranges'), plus the B sides 'Candy And A Current Bun' and 'Paintbox'. Other tracks are a version of 'Interstellar Overdrive' - Take 2 of the original recording sessions, previously only available on an EP in France - and the 1967 stereo version of 'Apples And Oranges'.

Other activities surrounding the 40th anniversary celebrations will be announced in due course.

Pink Floyd to release expanded version of classic album
'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' gets an anniversary makeover
24.Jul.07 6:14pm
Pink Floyd are to release a special 40th anniversary edition of their classic debut album 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'.

The expanded version, out on September 3, features mono and stereo versions of the LP, as well as a disc of bonus tracks.

The bonus tracks are the 1967 singles are 'Arnold Layne', 'See Emily Play', 'Apples And Oranges' plus the B-sides 'Candy And A Currant Bun' and 'Paintbox'.

Other tracks are an exclusive edit of 'Interstellar Overdrive', previously only available on an EP in France, and the 1967 stereo version of 'Apples And Oranges', which has never before been officially released.

The packaging, designed by longtime Floyd collaborator Storm Thorgerson, resembles a cloth-covered book with the original Vic Singh photo on the front, and holds the three CDs, along with an eight-page reproduction of one of the group's then-frontman Syd Barrett's notebooks.

Re: Special 40th anniversary edition of Piper

There is also a two-disc version without the cloth book and the bonus tracks, priced for the miserly.

Re: Special 40th anniversary edition of Piper

I got the 3 CD edition and it's really fantastic. Wonderful packaging (you can't really want any more than this, believe me!) and the mono Piper and the third disc with the singles plus some nice rarities ARE great value. It is rather expensive though so I suppose it's something for the most dedicated fans.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I actually saw the 2-disc set in stores weeks ago, but no one seems to be stocking the big one yet.

Re: Special 40th anniversary edition of Piper

I Just picked the 40th Anniversery set. looking at Syd's notebook (which shows you just how out of it he really was), I noticed one page is marked:

"This particular page has been left blank for legal reasons

For Further details see www.pinkfloyd.com"

Of course I did just that, and there is nothing there (as of Sept 16) anyone know wot's... uh the deal?
