Have you ever noticed anomalies in Floyd songs? As I've got a trained ear (I even have a site about this!) I can notice many things. For instance, in "Matilda Mother" I can hear a bad edit between some singing and a verse and some whispering around the end of the song. And you guys? Did you ever thought about seeking anomalies in songs?

I have. Try listening to "Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert". The cello skips during the break between "apparently" and "to make him give it back".

Also, try "Free Four" on Obscured by Clouds. During the outro solo, you will hear Mr. Waters speak softly, saying what sounds like, "Sad, isn't it?". But that might've been unintentional. I'll have to get back to you with the exact time on that one.

I'll post more as I remember them.

Am I right in saying that the guitar solo in the studio version of Comfortably Numb is poorly edited around 5:30? It seems to me that they cut a section out, probably for space reasons.

Nothing has been edited. CN on the studio version, is Dave's basic idea for the solo. The various live version is just an expansion on that.

Two more from DSotM: The sound level is inconsistent during the "explosion" at the end of "On the Run". Another one--the pitch bend at the very end of "Great Gig".

I've heard that if you turn the volume on "Eclipse" up as far as it goes (at the VERY end as the heartbeats fade out), you can hear a Beatles song accidentally recorded on there. I tried--there is definitely something, but I'm not enough of a Beatles expert to know for sure, or to identify it. Is that what you're talking about?

It's "Hard Days Night." The reason it's there, is because DSotM was recorded at the same studio (Abby Road Studio) as the Beatles...So, they recorded onto a used master tape...Well, When you record over a recording with a recording, faintly, the previous recording can be heard. (like on the tape recorders when we were kids...*heh*)It might be different on the CD...all I know is that it is pretty damn noticeable on my record....later!

Hey Aleudor, where did you read this?

I think that this thing of "it's a Beatles song" is wrong. Surely a hoax. Recording companies never reuse tapes to record different artists' songs. And "A Hard Day's Night" was recorded in 1964, nine years before DSOTM. And being a big Beatles fan myself, I believe that this song is not at the end of "Eclipse". There may be thousands of reasons for it, and I think this isn't one of them. People find a solution for a mystery and write them down somewhere just to feel satisfied for doing it and ending the story. But i think this isn't the way things should be.

cheers

Actually, the orchestration under the heart beats comes from either 'Paperback Writer' or 'Eleanor Rigby'. In those days, they did indeed re-use tapes at EMI. I managed to find a site with an MP# of said anomoly, with all the bass taken out, reducing the aortal thumps to nothing but the quiet clacking of a right click and the orchestration IS there. Have a look for it.

"There is no re-use of tapes. As a matter of fact, they're all new"

Shut it Jerry.

Associative,

Mark

This isn't so much a musical anomaly, as it is a priting error. But on my Relics CD (printed on the CD itself), none of the track times are correct. It lists Interstaler Overdrive as 3:28, and Bike as 7:11 just for examples. Is this the same on anyone else's CD?
